Stock airboxes are pretty in demand nowadays as more and more people realise the benefits of panel filters as opposed to pods and the fact they are 100% legal. You would be hardpressed finding someone that would give away a complete stock airbox for $20...

the law is the filter must be enclosed, if u make up a shield out of alloy or stainless and enclose the filter it is legal and will peform better cause of the under bonnet temps are very high then make up a duct system for cold air. legal, more power, and still sounds good.

what do u mean open FMIC and exhaust???

HMm man i gave mine away for 30bucks or something..

A friend of mine might still have one!! will let u know

Where can you buy a shield From

If any one has made one could you send me a pic of it: [email protected]

The rules are you can only have one mod on the intake EG: intercooler or pod not both

BUT someone told me you could box it but im not sure if its true...

because they recon it changes emissions and cops could send you off to EPA.

all i know is my car sounds like a non turbo and its killing me...

need to do something.

check forsale section if you interested in stock air boxes..

Also check forsale section if you want to buy a heatsheild for your pod. (Mr_crust sells these, and maybe other forum members also- so search)

I dont know the rules in your state.. Meh i dont even know the rules in my state.

But i know you have to have your pod inclosed.

Whats this about fmic??

I dont get your point tho..

this is all new to me. i just got my skyline about 3 months ago and it had a pod. i had to get a rwc for it so i searched the forums for the legalities of pod filters and other mods. i rang epa victoria who directed me to vic roads. they said to be road worthy it had to be a paper filter it had to be mounted securly and still had to have the air flow sensor on it. they didnt say anything about covering the pod. passed the road worthy. thats the rules in victoria anyway.

Im In Victoria and found out some stuff Yesterday

OK Here are the rules guys i rang An EPA Engineer that does modifications (Through Vicroads)

He Said that if you have an aftermarket Intercooler You can NOT Have a pod filter at all Even if its boxed

Reason being it changes emissions you can have one or the other not both.

So anyone in vic with both like i had will eventually get done for it

I Think my idea with the air flow pipe through the standard box is the way to go so im doing it

what they cant see they cant pick on

Sorry for the bad news guys....

Not going to bother reading most of the above posts because most seem misleading.

Here is the EPA rule in Victoria: 1 Induction modification ONLY! In effect that means either have your POD and get rid of the FMIC... or the otherway around. <_<

If you decide to go the POD way, your filter element must be of paper type, oil based filters are not permitted.

BOV must not vent to the atmosphere, must be recirlculating due to emissions.

That's pretty much the basic rules (for Victoria).

What is there is understand?

According to EPA Victorian rules: You may only have 1 intake modification.

You may have taken my post too literally, when I said keep the POD and get rid of the FMIC. Most people to clear defects just get a stock airbox to replace the pod to reduce down the induction mod count back to 1.

Basically it was a joke because I don't understand why people install pods without heatshields over a perfectly fine airbox which is shielded against heatsoak, but that's a totally different issue.

And since you asked about stock SMIC, well you answered it yourself, stock SMIC. If it is a stock item that came on the car from the factory is that a modification? No.

EDIT: I might also add because there is a lot of misleading information on about this shielded pod/cold air intake pipe etc. You can cover the pod as much as possible, hide it behind the front bar, whatever, but at the end of the day it is a modification. OK, simple clear English, shielding your pod filter WILL NOT make your car legal if you have a FMIC (again because the pod is an extra modification).

another way around this it paint your intercooler black like i have done, it helps with cooling, doesnt stand out, and adds to the stealth look. but it was very hard painting a hks cooler!!! it will only work with gtrs and other front mounts not with side or top mounts. not saying it is legal but as someone else said what they cant see they cant pick on you.
