hi there sorry to waste your time guys,

but originally i thought i could import a car no problem just buy and go since i have my friend in the export&import business the shipping would be too easy now since i slapped my self many times to understand the fine lines, It seems i can't do that and my time is running out in Japan...

heres my question's sorry ><

1. I want to import a car from japan but i do not meet the requirements is it possible to buy a car off a import company like J-spec and arrange shipping and compliance my self? or is it impossible?, If so what should i do to get around this problem without buying one in Aus. :D

2. I been reading scary stories about people importing a nice car but some good parts have been swapped to dodgy parts by the compliancer is this true?.

last question sorry guys..

If any of you guys/gal reading this and had the same or near the problem as i have, would you please be able to reply or pm me with what steps u took to counter this problem? sorry if i sound like a noob or so.. just freaked out :P

thank you very much for hearing me out lol and sorry again =D

many thanks

Tas

I think if you go with j-spec, you have the final word on everything. So lets say if you want to ship it via your friend, then they will allow that - but its at your risk (if you know what i mean).

Some compliancers are dodgey - where are you located - the guys and girls here maybe able to help you out by directing you to reputable compliancers. Some parts they have to be destroyed (god only knows why), but usually you will be told this and you will have to make up your mind as to whether or not you want the parts or not. For compliancing purposes, it has to be stock (from what i know) - then after that you can re-attach the parts).

What I would do is go to someone who knows their cars (j-spec certainly woudl know), and then talk to them about it, get to know what kinda cars they look for, see any customer cars if there is any (even pics or if its ok with the customers you can go and check the cars out as they are being complianced).

You can organise them yourself if you want, but then J-Spec organises that for you anyways as part of the service, so you might as well let us do it for you and save yourself the hassle of trying to find the best deal.

Most SEVS compliancers play it by the book, so if there are aftermarket parts on the car, they will change it to stock standard ones so your car can be engineered with no issues. Whether they return the original parts is up to the compliancer, but most of the ones we recommend don't have any issues with that. All depends on the car you buy really. The more "good parts" your SEVS car has on it, the harder it is to comply and subsequently import.

In a similar vein...... if I wanted to source a vehicle myself in Japan, could I get someone like J-Spec to handle 'the rest' ?? (i.e. transport, import approvals, compliancing once in Oz etc)

yeah, shouldn't be a problem... we can help you import a car you've already found. Most often we can even negotiate further with the seller and help out while the car is in japan too.
