Hey guys, just got a querie that I was wondering if anyone could help me with. When I got home from work today and parked in the driveway I noticed my oil pressure was reading zero! I tapped the accelerator and this brought it back up, but as soon as it started to ilde it went back to zero again. A couple of hours later I wnt back to the car, started it and it gave a normal pressure reading. However, I went for a drive and as soon as i stopped and the car was idling I got a reading of Zero (during regular driving I still get a normal pressure reading). It seems the only time I get a positive reading during idle is when I first start the car (does not matter if the car is cold or still a bit warm from its last run). Any ideas what this may be and how best to fix it? Id really appreaciate any help some of you more knowledgable folk could give me.

Cheers

try changing the oil pressure switch. it should cost much from nissan.

do not mess with oil pressure, i.e. hoping the problem will go away.

or better yet, get an aftermarket oil pressure tester/gauge. these usually come with their own sensors which is what i'll be running on my car once its back on the road.

go to your mechanic and ask for a mechanical oil pressure check up, it should give you a true reading. if its reading fine on the mechanical gauge, get your sendor unit changed( it costs around 200 from nissan).

if its reading like that on the mechanical gauge as well, you are in serious trouble. it could be the oil pump or bearing.......

personally i think its your gauge, coz if its really zero oil pressure, you would start to hear some loud noise from your engine..., and its just a matter of mins before the motor is gone.

OK I just wnt through all of this with my car

At frist startup oil pressure was normal then as soon as it got some temperature it would go to nearly zero

I did the check with a mehanical guage and it agreed with the stock unit

Then I thought about my oil (Turbolight 10W40)

I changed it to penrite 10W60 and the problem was solved, Simply put the lighter oil could not take the heat and broke down as soon as the car got up to temp!

Thanks for your help thus far guys. I changed the oil and filter thismorning, but unfortunately it hasn't fixed the problem (oil was pretty crap though so still a good thing). The car is at the mechanic now so hopefully I'll have a better idea of what the problem is soon. Ill let you know the diagnosis when I get it.

I'm not sure if i can help,

Morning - Pressure up high because the oil hasnt circulated through the entire engine.

After driving for awhile - pressure will be regulated by where your foot position is (Or Revs).

When you stop and idle - because the oil is warm, it wont need a lot of pressure to circulate.

BUT those guages are farked in skylines. Try using another guage. I would only be concerned when the red light comes on.

-------------i think thats right

Got my car back from the mechanic. The problem was just my pressurs sensor, which will need to be replaced. For some reason it won't give a reading when the car is idling even though the pressure readings are normal (according to the equipment he used). Thanks again for your help guys it is much appreciated!
