I would add that the standard change over points are perfect. You will get no performance or fuel economy benefit from changing them until the car is extensively modified.

yes the car will run without it plugged in but it will suck alot.

unplugged it is disengaged.

it can be controlled via a pfc or a retuned ecu or a stand alone.

how do u mean it will 'suck alot'? wouldnt it running disengaged make it just like a non vct rb25?

when my car is idling, if i pull the throttle cable abit and rev the engine up a touch, this weird dud dud dud sound comes from the cam cover area, im not sure if its a worn bearing somewhere in the engine or if its the vct.

anyone know if its related to the vct?
