Bit Of Help.

hey everyone,

I currently own an r33 gts-t skyline. It has a K&N pod filter, aftermarket BOV, 3" exhaust from the cat back, and running on stock boost. I am looking to do some light mods and have $3000 to spend. I currently have a few problems such as boost spiking and my clutch is close to gone. So i was thinking replace with a new clutch ($300) fitted, and was also thinking of replacing the stock ECU with something like a microtech LT12 or an Apexi FC ecu. Also a 3" exhaust from the turbo back. Would anyone have any suggestions on how i could go about getting my r33 to run smooth with some power increase?.

yep...complete the exhaust, get a better clutch to handle the extra power....exedy heavy duty for sale (240rwkw one) for $320 + fitting obviously...

then a front mount, up the boost, and get an aftermarket computer....:laugh:

Hey mate. Thanks for the advise it is much appreciated. I am a bit weary on buying a front mount. I have spoken to a few tuners in Queensland and NSW and they have said if im only going to replace the ecu and up the boost then to continue running stock intercooler. they said if i get a front mount i could have trouble with turbo lag and maybe the loss of power. If i replace the ecu and the other mods i have talked about, then i would only be upping the boost to probablly about 10psi (ceramic turbo so i wouldnt want to risk going any higher) without damage. i suppose its a topic that could be argued by different opinions and experience.

Also is the Exedy clutch a brand new one? if it is i would be very interested in buying it.

as for the fmic issue, its up to you at the end of the day. front mounts are a very popular mod...cooler intake temps can only be good, and if u have a full 3" exhaust, the throttle response gained from that would be balanced out with a fmic...so it shouldnt be too laggy at all....having said that, im pretty sure the stock coolers can handle 10psi, so you might be able to leave it at that and spend your money elsewhere.

Once you start the hunt for power you won't stop with what a stock cooler will support. I have measured the outlet temps at 70 deg from the stock cooler at 14psi with a hiflow stock turbo. When I put on an 800hp Hybrid the temps were never higher than 1 degree above ambient on FMIC exit except when I was cruising below 60kmh on a hot day in traffic.

Save an expensive step in the tune and boost/boost a bit more/break piston rings or worse/rebuild engine/install FMIC/tune and boost cycle. Fit the FMIC now with a decent exhaust, then start chasing power and save the expensive detonation adventure.

So you are saying get the 3" from the turbo back, and a front mount to start my mods?

Always the best place to start is those 2, then induction like a decent pod and cold air partition as the stock snorkel is restrictive...BTW the filter is the same for all 'lines, either T or R, then the PFC and boost controller (Jaycar item, an extensive thread on here by Sydneykid) and don't forget to apply some attention to brakes. A service, slotted rotors and good pads to pull up the power.

WIth 3k to spend, and already having a cat back and pod filter, you can do some nice mods...

batmbl split dump + hi flow cat ~$600

hybrid copy front mount with piping ~$450-$500 (speak to EXAUNV on SAU for a good price)

get yourself a nice partition to shield that pod from the hot air ~$300 for 1 of the ready made 1's....cheaper if u do it yourself etc...

so far you've only spent about $1500...leaves u with $1500 to spend...

a pfc will cost you $960 on SAU from gr33ddy, + tuning which will usually be $400+ so that might do it for your 3k...

or if you want to hold off on the PFC for a while, you can pay some attention to your brakes as Geoff suggested....you can pick up a full set of 4 DBA slotted rotors for about $750 off SAU atm(Click here for DBA brakes thread)...then add some nice pads and you'll be stopping nicely :D

if you take that route, and do the breaks before the pfc, you should have a few hundred left over to put towards saving up for the pfc anyway ;)

id go with a heavy duty mate.

a mate of mine (member on here) when he put his 3" turbo back on, his clutch went a week later....might have already been on its way, but it wasnt slipping before the exhaust went on...

ive just bought 1 of those exedy's i linked you too, it'll be installed next week...and they say they handle 240rwkw, and with full exhaust, pfc, and fmic with 10-12psi you'll be close to 200rwkw :)

That sounds like a good price for the pfc. Does it include hand controlla? Also could you give me the contact details for power fc, coz i think i might buy one at that price. Also who would you reccomend as a good tuner in QLD? I have given APC performance a call and they said they will tune it for $500-$700. I think im goin to run out of money but, because i still need to buy the heavy duty clutch. I will have enought for the zorst, pfc, and the clutch, but maybe not enough for the cooler. im not sure wat to do, gettin a bit confused on how i should go about it.

Yes i can vouch for those excedy cluthes (if its from c & B)-- I have not clicked on the link posted above, but for that price im sure its from c & B..

I have had no problems with it so far and the clutch feels great..

It was one my first things i bought for the car and have never looked back...

Heres my list:

Hi-flow cat- 300 plus fittin

Spilt dump pipe/front pipe - 450 plus fitting

Pod heat sheild-100

Hybrid Cooler-700 or 400 cheap copy ones plus fittin or do it your own..

cam gear exhaust intake- 300 or so

boost controller- simple one from 100bucks.. (boost t)

boost guage to read boost- anywhere from 100bucks second hand to 800bucks package.

pfc- 1k

tuning- 500-700

easily now a 200kw car.. What more do you need??

Why do you want to spend 3k in a short time?

I rather do my mods over time and apprieacte it more.

Have you got enough money for savings incase something happens?

EDIT: forgot to add fuel pump-- 300 or so i think

not gonna get it layed out much easier than that for you :blink:

also, with those mods, you probably wont need a fuel pump....plenty of people with 200rwkw on the stock pump....might be something to get later on if you're looking at more mods though
