Thinking of importing from Japan under RAWS. Most places tell me that the car needs to be returned to standard before it can be complied.

But how standard is standard? Aftermarket exhaust, mild bodykit, rims? Do all these need to be changed back to standard in order to have the car complied?

Standard air box, rims, exhaust, steering wheel. Basically, the car has to be put back to a standard when it was first released from Nissan.

Also, be careful of accident cars or any damages to the under body, chassis rail and even body dents.

The thing with kits is that it might make the car lower than the limit so it will be changed, and with front bars most use different indicators so that will be switched too. I've seen a 33 ready for compliance that was a light pink sort of colour, with black sideskirts & a white spoiler, obviously these people know it's got a kit.....

As for the original question, it's all got to be stock. Suspension, steering wheel, air filter, you name it. Even with compliance you might get an identical car for a lower price, but you have to be willing to wait a few months to get it instead of a couple of days so that's where you're choice comes in. There more modified the car, the longer the wait.

i bought over my stocka, got it nice and cheap, with little evidence of it copping a hiding in J-Land.

My cousin recently imported a 180sx under the "new rules" and it had a SAFC II, RSM and Yashio Factory Water temp gauge, all of which he has stuffed up under the dash etc to hide for compliance >_<
