Unable To Pump Petrol Properly

Hi Guys,

not sure what topic title to state so i just stated my problem.

What i am experiencing now is that the petrol 'hole/inlet' at the back of the skyline seems to be too small for the fuel pump nozzle to go in. Only a small portion of the nozzle gets into the 'hole'.

I tried to tilt the nozzle in different ways but it doesn't seem to fit.

I know this is a rare situation but can i know if anyone else have this problem? Anyone can let me know the remedy to it?

So you cant get the nozzle into the fuel fill hole?

where are you located? I ask because in australia they put a restrictor in to stop ppl using leaded fuel in unleaded vehicles, and what you've described sound like it.

Has the car been in an accident before you bought it? Have seen this happen many a time when the car has had a rear impact and it pushes the fuel neck out of alignment. Only happens when people dont repair the car properly.

Nah doubt it as i've brought it to a relative who's a mechanic and owns his own workshop. He hoisted the car up and did a thorough bumper to bumper check. No sign of uneven chassis bodyline or anything at all.

What i heard is that, during compliance, this fuel 'thing' should be changed. The RAWS place must have put a lousy fuel neck on. Anyone wishes to confirm with me?

Took me about 10 mins to pump full tank today.

The servo dude used his mic from inside the store asked me " excuse me sir, do you want me to help you fill up the tank? "

LOL

take a picture. if it's the incorrect nozzle thing you can ask a workshop to do it for cheap or get a nozzle kit thingy and do it yourself.

IMO, i see the nozzle the same as all other cars. I'll definitely bring it to a RAWS to get it checked again.

Yes, i did twist and turn the nozzle around to fill it up, petrol just keep coming out.

Cogs, don't worry i have my sexual life in control :woot:

How much of the nozzle are you trying to cram in?

There's probably nothing wrong with it at all, you're just assuming that it should go in further than it does.

Years ago the nozzles used to be able to go right up to the hilt, but things change, and this isn't the case anymore.

They've probably done this intentionally to stop people jamming the pumps on and walking away.

...also, if less of the nozzle can fit inside the tank, the tank can ultimately hold more fuel before the pump switches off.

Good for the fuel companies who can make an extra few bucks, not so good for the people who are driving around wondering why their car smells like petrol because the tank is over full.

Open your fuel flap, take off the cap, get a tape measure, put the tape measure across the fuel filler, take a photo.

SKY031, Nope i don't think i went too far in. This is the 2nd skyline i've own and the previous skyline was totally fine. My previous cars were fine too. Not saying that i expect the entire nozzle to go in though but it's really ridiculous now. Takes me ages to fill up when i can't even press the 'trigger' fully.

Alright, looks like i have to take pictures of the filler tml.

      Good morning all, Bit of a random question but figured I’d finally throw it out after wondering for a long while. Before I start, I'm hoping to do this purely out of personal preference. I think it would look better at night, and don't mind at all spending a few hours and dollars to get it done. I've copied this from a non-Skyline specific forum, so I apologize for the explanation of our headlight switch setup that we all know. Here we go: Zero lights (switch off) Parking lights (switch position 1) being a rectangular marker on the outside of the housing, my low beam being the projector in the centre (position 2), and a high beam triggered by my turn signal stalk. Most North American cars I’ve owned of this era have power to the amber corner (turning indicator) light as part of the first switch (parking lights). I’d love to have these amber corners receive power when the headlights and parking lights are on (headlight switch), yet still blink when using the turn signal which is of course a separate switch. Hopefully I’ve explained my question correctly. Is anyone aware of a way in which I might be able to achieve this? Thanks in advance

      My heads are cathedral port! It's likely possible, but I don't want to add any extra moving parts (I know they don't move) between the heads, manifolds, etc. It will also affect how injectors/fuel rails etc sit and I don't really know if it would change how the FAST manifold goes/sits/fits. I have the LS6 steam pipes already as I have a very late LS1 block so it should be fine. I couldn't find anyone who had ever actually used one for this purpose, it seems 100% of people grind the water pump. The thermal spacers are 12mm and are half way to the cost of the newer water pump anyhow... so if it comes to that I suppose I'd rather buy a new pump. The bearing in the pump I do have is a little.. clunky, but it hasn't done that much time and I never noticed it when the car was together in the past few years, so..

      The bushing has failed, not all that uncommon for a car of this age.  Any mechanic should be able to push in a new bushing for you, or you can probably buy the entire lower control arm, complete with bushes.

      Could you not use "thermal" spacers to give the clearance, like the ones I used between the blower and head? That raised the manifold height by around 10-15mm Albeit the ones I used were for cathedral ports, but I assume they have similar for rectangular ports????

      Thanks Paul I reached out to Autotainment but they no longer work on JDM cars as the guy who used to do the work moved on and is no longer doing that kind of work. I am talking with Level Up Audio though.
