How To Measure Coilpack Performance?

How do you go about testing coilpacks for what voltage/amps they are putting out? I have a multimeter but have never used it.

Thanks for that.. But could someone please elaborate. Like step-bystep. Does the car have to be running? Sorry complete newb to auto electrics here

No you take the coilpacks out of the car and simply use the multimeter on it.

Yeah I thought it would be hard to get at the pins when its running lol.. Well I tried testing the one that was playing up.. Got all sorts of readings including 0, 0.2, and once it produced 1.4 wich sounds correct.

Why am I getting inconsistant readings? The multimeter is a pretty cheap one.. Could it be the batteries?

You have to make sure the multimeter contacts are contacting the pins on the coilpack properly. During the time I went to apply the multimeter contact onto the pins the value on the multimeter was flucuating but once it made a clean contact it stayed on one value.

Yeah I was fiddling with the contact for like 10 mins... Tried it again just now.. And I'm getting nothing at all
