hey all,

long time owner, new time driver >_< - so just making sure my car is going ok and everything...

Just wondering what other manual, turbo, R34 owners cars are revving at when doing 100kph?

My car seems to be around 2700 - 2800rpm, more 2800rpm... i thought it was a little high??

No modifications at all except splitfire coilpacks...

is this a normal rpm for 100kph?

that's about right. i've got an r34 gt-t with no mods.

nah man, this is 2nd gear.... my car go do 350km/hr!

yeah, yeah, 5th gear.... thought it was a little high that's all, 2800rpm..

and on that token... is it silly to use 5th gear when doing 60kph? i'm thinking purely from a fuel economy point of view. in that the less the rpm, the less petrol being used? But wasn't sure how good it was to drive at 60kph in 5th, at about 1700-1800 rpm

I read something today about fuel economy. They recon moving to a higher gear as early as possible, and 5th in 60 should be ok. But then its all about gear ratios i guess, so it changes on a vehicle to vehicle basis. I guess.

my mates 34 revs at just under 3k from memory too, which i thought seemed a little high too, but i guess not. 5th at 60km/hr might even be worse for fuel econemy, if you've only got very light throttle, then ok, but even on a slight uphill, or accelerating from 60km/hr, then there'd be so much load that you'd use heaps of fuel, where as downshifting and revving a little bit harder while ur closer to the meat of the torqu curve, u will use less fuel. thats the theory side of it that i was taught, probly all a load of sh*t tho lol :D

Mines auto R33 and I find that when the car has not warmed up properly it sits on around 2900-3000 RPM, once it has warmed up it drops to as far as 2,600 RPM.

The revs drop when the torque converter locks up. When driving an auto you should try and notice when the converter locks unlocks and attempt to drive with the converter locked as often as possible, this will lead to very good economy.

better fuel economy in 5th unless u are trying to accelerate or goin uphill.. :D

i only sift up to 5th wen im going 80......i woulda thought 5th gear in 60 puts to much wait on the car.......what revs does it sit on when going 60 in 5th?

these are my shists

2nd at 20kph

3rd at 40kph

4th at 60

5th at 80

thats for cruising.....

we all know what we go up to in other occasions hahaha
