I was looking into getting a DR Drift remap. however, then i found out the price. and if i was goin to have to remap after every mod after 3 mods i could of bought my self a powerfc.

I think if your goin to do something do it right the first time. but that depends on the person .

How is that any different to tuning the PFC every time you change something?

As long as your AFM is working correctly I don't see why this wouldn't work. The ECU calculates you need X amount of fuel for Y amount of air sensed by the AFM. Aslong as the AFM is accurate then the calculated AFR's should be the same as the actuals (or reasonably close).

The stock R32 maps go down to 10.6 AFR's (calculated), if you bumped with up to 11.5 I dout it would lean out aslong as your fuel pump was up to the task.

This ECU map guy seem way to risky for my liking.

Put it this way, Say u pay 300 for the chip and put it on ur car and for some reason ur car has unexpect results like i did when i got mine dynoed. What are u gonna do then? He cant come and remapp it for u to fix the problem (say too lean) so u will have to chuck the chip out.

At least with DR. Drift he tunes it on the spot and u know ur car will be running perfectly coz he will be tuning it to run perfectly.

Considering Dr.Drift charges 500 (i think) for the remapp, i would personally prefer to get the powerFC can have it tuned by some1 like RE customs. U pay 500 extra but at least the powerFc tells u when ur engine is knocking, when ur injectors are maxing out, when ur fuel pump is maxing out and whateva else it tells u. $500 is cheap for vital information like this

This sort of remapping has been done in japan for more than 10 years. it is a cheaper alternative to getting a PFC.

usually you get the best results from mild tried and tested upgrades like rb25 turb on RB20 or 2530 on RB20 and standard injector upgrades like gtr into RB20 or Z32 afm into RB20.

I have had a lot of remaps done and I have always been happy with em. because nobody knows you are running aftermarket management. easier on rego and $1000 less to fork out on mods.

There would be literally 100s of people on these forums running remaps and most are happy with them. It's all well and good to say PFC PFC PFC till you are blue in the face but it is proven that a remap works otherwise nobody would do it.

there is nothing wrong with a remap, even our race cars run them. The factory computer has plenty of room for changes.

Tas084, the PFC tells you when its knocking, but the standard ECU sees it and does something about it (retards timing for you).....which do you think is a better idea?

yeah i am with you Duncan. i have had really good success with standard ECUs learning , Moreso on Rb30's

The Poewr Fc is a nice bit of Adjustable gear but it dosent offer a change of rule to A/R, Lambda or detination physics.... the correct values are always the same no matter whats driving the injector. If the standard Ecu has the scope the maths to HP is the same....

yea but power fc dose it properly.. and mapping the ecu has limits.. i dont want limits. so if im goin to spend $450 on something that gives me a quick power gain id rather put it to a powerfc.

You sound like you are an expert.

That is the biggest load of crap I have heard this year. The remapped ecu has a greater tuning capacity than a powerFC. The remapped ECU can do anything a powerfc can plus it has the added bonus of cold start, diagnostic error coding, knock retardation and adaptable tuning. PowerFC is dumb and only does what it is told. Even then, any man and his dog can tune one and charge $500. Have a guess at the quality of tune you get for that though.

Dr Drift has remapped literally hundreds of factory ecu's including mine (450hp RB20), one of the recent drift national champions (500hp RB20), 400awkw GTR's, widespan sheds drift S13 (320hp CA18) etc, etc.

I am thinking of upgrading to a bigger turbo and want to know if the existing remap will suit the new turbo. I am thinking i might need a full retune as the standard injectors will max out at around 210rwkw?

I am just after a bit more power and have around $2500 to spend.

I was looking at either a gt28rs or a turbo from sliding turbos. would the 28rs be better than the hiflow? the hiflow is $980 and the gt28rs is $1400. that would leave me $1000 for injectors and a retune. Are gtr injectors getting a bit old now? I can get a set for $350.

Thankyou All

Sorry to bring such an old thread back to life but can somebody direct me to Dr drift. Far as a contact email or something. Can't really call him course that would be expensive from where i'm calling from ( STATESIDE)....But been reading alot about Remapping lately and consider that for what i'm shooting for it is the best bang for my buck. So if one of you Aussies could be so kind and give me some kind of contact that would be very nice. Could you PM me his contact please. Thank you.

    • So we have most the interior back in, and for the first time with one OEM speaker hooked up. The 31 is running, driving and now tunes!!! Hahaha yet another step for the sub that sat 10m under for two weeks!!! unbelievable really 👌 lots of love work and not giving up on her. Seen so many youngsters part way less, and in way better condition. I’m stubborn, thinking another problem is just a hurdle to overcome, One at a time. IMG_9277.mov
    • That is correct. I'm using a modified ABS ring and a ZF speed sensor on my rear diff for speed input. I'm running a Haltech ecu.
    • Been busy with the newborn. We originally thought we were going to go for a third, but we're good with two lol. He's starting to actually sleep now so I've had some energy to work on the car. It's been parked away in the garage since late November due to winter.  I went ahead and redid all my head oil drains. I originally had my front and rear head drain going into the same pipe but have since split them up. I also added an Ethanol content sensor to get ready to run E85 this summer. Tossed it on my return line. Sensor sits nicely under my intake manifold.    I also have a lot of parts that came in for my rear end. I'll be swapping over to a 3.3 final drive and doing the GK teck anti squat mod. While the rear subframe is off, I'll also change every bushing. We're planning on buying another house soon with the condition that I get at a minimum a 2 door garage, so I'll wait to have more room for this. Now onto the strange things that recently happened... After changing the lower rad hose (It had been sitting in my cabinet for well over a year and was the last hose I had to replace), I let the car idle in the garage to bleed my coolant. After running for a few minutes, it started missing. Got much worst within a minute or two and then stalled and would not restart. My crank sensor decided to crap itself. No damage, no explanation, just died. I went ahead and replaced it with another ZF sensor but the heavier duty stainless model with a shield. Tossed that in and started right up. Has anyone else seen this? I hate when things fail without cause. Luckily this was a blessing in disguise... This lead me to recheck my timing. It seems I may have had a beer or two the last time I had set my TDC angle as I was off exactly 5 degrees... I miscounted a line haha. I was running 5 degrees less then commanded. It's a little embarrassing but helps explain why my dyno operator seemed to think I should be making more then 478rwkws.
    • Sharing results from recent Liberty Walk R35 GTR, since they are still considered as somesort of a V36 Skyline. We do them turbos too. This are high flowed SS-1 models with ball bearing conversion done.  Car have managed to pull 485awkws @ 20Psi so far pushing limitations of factory built engine. The build list for R35 GTR enthusiasts as follow : HyperGear high flowed stock turbos in SS1 (G25-660 specs) Custom titanium intake pipes. Vspec performance titanium front pipes. Vspec performance 4" titanium exhaust. Upgrade fuel pumps. 1200cc injectors. Ignition coilpacks Hks intake plenum. Hks intercooler piping. Greddy intercooler. Greddy bovs. Top-secret coolant reservoir. Emtron ecu. Straight E85. Built gear box.
    • Nah no bearings, just slip fit.  Would be a reasonably challenging but not impossible job to modify it to run bearings but I'm hoping that's not necessary as I may have well built one myself if I end up spending hours modifying it!
