Yep is is tuned for the mods you list. and you then go by your self to the dyno to get it checked, He guaranteed me if i didn't get a power increase he would write another tune for me after seeing the dyno sheet.

You can get upto 3 seperate tunes sent to you, dyno all 3 and keep the one that suits your car best and send the other 2 back but it costs a bit extra. He was confident he would get it right first time and he did.

Get it right? Or close enough?

Im not trying to sound negative.

But i cant see how someone in another state can tune your car based on what youve "told" them.

Its just pot luck, and it will never be the best tune either.

For $300 it wouldnt wanna be anymore as the tune will never be as good as paying for someone to do it real-time.

Considering you still have to go to a dyno to check, i dunno... im not convinced

What nismod says has some merit to it though.

He is right if the tuner is with you at the dyno you WILL get a better result.

But I did not want to pay big $$$ for a tune as mine is just a mild upgrade.

mabye i could have got a couple more rwkw out of it but I am happy with the results

And like nismod says, he can only go on what you tell him.

Keep in mind there are litrally 1000s of tuners doing it in japan this way, Including some big names.

and yeah it was $150 + $10 delivery + $30 to get the socket soldered in at a tv shop and $80 for the dyno run so all up $270

so the tune was really only half the cost.

I think nissan tune thier cars ritch from the factory, so theoretically its just a matter of adjusting the 'k' value to get the 12:1 afr, im a noob at tuning, so I have been doing a bit of reaserch with the goal of tuning my car, but I would guess this is all he is doing, then you can fine tune from there, I dunno, I have more reaserch to do, and to buy the equipment

And what lean out your engine everywhere - thats dumb, thats why noobs shouldn't tune. To tell you the truth I have no idea how this guys sends his programs out every nissan we see at work either needs a fuel pump or the airflow meters are distrorting the real airflow value or the base timing is out 5 or 10 degrees or there is some dumbass idea typical of cheap nissan owners. The chances of getting the mixtures wrong is so much higher with boosted engines.

S/H Ninja - you said your AFM was maxing out before?

The stock AFM should max out at around 200-205 so it would have been well worth your while upgrading to a z32 and getting the appropriate chip to suit. Try winding 4th right out to redline and see if it actually gets there without cutting ignition. When the AFM voltage reaches 5.1V for 3 secs or more your ECU should automatically cut power.

Plus the most you'll ever see out of a set of RB20 stock injectors is 205-208 rwkw so those injectors of yours would be running at 100% or more which is dangerous if the fuel system decides to hiccup for a split second.

I was thinking the same thing, the afm hit max airflow before but now with more power, hence more airflow it doesnt cut?

Was the before dyno run done on the same dyno as the after?

Lastly, I see the run was done in "shoot 3" where usually it would be shoot 6F. Would that affect the power figure? Or is it just a ramp rate thing?

just been reading this topic and my question may apply somewhat

i've got a stock rb20det motor just turbo back exhaust on 10psi atm

i've also got a r33 s2 turbo which im going to be purchasing shortly and i have a fmic/kit which i'm going to be put on the same time as the turbo

with turbo back exhaust, pod, fmic, r33 s2 turbo, is it safe to run 1bar (14psi) without receiving any boost/fuel cuts.. would i need a remap or chip of my stock ecu?

Also why would you scrub out the Ambiant temps and inlet temps unless you have something to hide?

Me thinks you are only making 180rwkw and your tuner put the sensor on your exhaust.

LOL yeah I really need to do that. I dont give a F*#k what sort of power it makes. altho the dyno guy didn't even put the afr's on the printout so i wouldnt put it past him.

Car feels heaps faster and runs perfectly and I have had it tested with a wideband sensor and it is fine.

s*^t some of you guys are negative.

I was just happy with my results and thought I would share. Perhaps next time I will think twice before sharing my mods with others.

dude, you cant blame them for being negative.

these days you truely get what you pay for, and when something real cheap come along, people always think its a scam unless they see some hard proof. and the proof in this case has been tampered with.

I for one wouldnt trust someone over the web to tune my car. every engine is differant, 2 engines with the exact same mods will never make the same power.

just becarefull, cause the money you saved on a proper tune might have to go towards a new engine......

Steve

He knew what he was doing, and the risk. 200rwkw and a nice smooth curve on an RB20 is the result. Time will tell, but it looks like everything went his way this time. I wouldnt get it done, but congrats on the good result mate, thats a happy RB20.

Hey guys - slightly off topic but does anyone know where in Melbourne is good to get a re-map? I know of a couple of places that do it but I am really after someone reputable - I've heard of a 'few' stories of blown RB20s after having had a remap...which is what I am trying to avoid...!! Its not a matter of cost, I personally would rather retain a complete factory ECU rather than a PFC (if possible)...my car is an R32 GTS-t and mods are;

FMIC

HKS 2535

R32 GTR injectors

Q45 AFM

Walbro pump

Any suggestions would be much appreciated...!!!

Cheers,

Chris

    • That is correct. I'm using a modified ABS ring and a ZF speed sensor on my rear diff for speed input. I'm running a Haltech ecu.
    • Been busy with the newborn. We originally thought we were going to go for a third, but we're good with two lol. He's starting to actually sleep now so I've had some energy to work on the car. It's been parked away in the garage since late November due to winter.  I went ahead and redid all my head oil drains. I originally had my front and rear head drain going into the same pipe but have since split them up. I also added an Ethanol content sensor to get ready to run E85 this summer. Tossed it on my return line. Sensor sits nicely under my intake manifold.    I also have a lot of parts that came in for my rear end. I'll be swapping over to a 3.3 final drive and doing the GK teck anti squat mod. While the rear subframe is off, I'll also change every bushing. We're planning on buying another house soon with the condition that I get at a minimum a 2 door garage, so I'll wait to have more room for this. Now onto the strange things that recently happened... After changing the lower rad hose (It had been sitting in my cabinet for well over a year and was the last hose I had to replace), I let the car idle in the garage to bleed my coolant. After running for a few minutes, it started missing. Got much worst within a minute or two and then stalled and would not restart. My crank sensor decided to crap itself. No damage, no explanation, just died. I went ahead and replaced it with another ZF sensor but the heavier duty stainless model with a shield. Tossed that in and started right up. Has anyone else seen this? I hate when things fail without cause. Luckily this was a blessing in disguise... This lead me to recheck my timing. It seems I may have had a beer or two the last time I had set my TDC angle as I was off exactly 5 degrees... I miscounted a line haha. I was running 5 degrees less then commanded. It's a little embarrassing but helps explain why my dyno operator seemed to think I should be making more then 478rwkws.
    • Sharing results from recent Liberty Walk R35 GTR, since they are still considered as somesort of a V36 Skyline. We do them turbos too. This are high flowed SS-1 models with ball bearing conversion done.  Car have managed to pull 485awkws @ 20Psi so far pushing limitations of factory built engine. The build list for R35 GTR enthusiasts as follow : HyperGear high flowed stock turbos in SS1 (G25-660 specs) Custom titanium intake pipes. Vspec performance titanium front pipes. Vspec performance 4" titanium exhaust. Upgrade fuel pumps. 1200cc injectors. Ignition coilpacks Hks intake plenum. Hks intercooler piping. Greddy intercooler. Greddy bovs. Top-secret coolant reservoir. Emtron ecu. Straight E85. Built gear box.
    • Nah no bearings, just slip fit.  Would be a reasonably challenging but not impossible job to modify it to run bearings but I'm hoping that's not necessary as I may have well built one myself if I end up spending hours modifying it!
    • Brumbys with good shells are bloody expensive, I've looked at 2 "cheaper" cars, and walked away from both,  plus after some research spare parts are fairly sparce I'm starting to think that I missed the boat on finding a clean one that is straight (ish) and without alot rust I'm starting to think about a old Hilux as panels and other parts are much more available as they sold tens of thousands of them I use to be indecisive but now I'm not sure
