I have seen ppl on here before asking about resturants if they are good or bad and it got me thinking , why dont we start a food guide. If u have been to a good resturant , takeawy place or whatever let us know I dont really want to hear about the bad one rather the good ones. I will start the ball rolling with what I think is a kick ass pizza place

Johnos Pizza Mawson it next to the supermarket think it might be Mawson Pl

Taste......I would give the pizza 9/10 not oily good mix of topping and cheese

How Clean..........Always nice and clean no funny smells in shop 9/10

Service......... well its a takeaway place u order u get your food never kept waiting long , no good looking girls only old dudes 7/10

Value..........$15 gets a big pizza hard to put away between 2 blokes 8/10

Parking..........huge car park across the road 10/10

That about all I think of at the moment , maybe the r34 owners can fill us in about the high end resturants and the r33 owner can tell us about some good seafood places .... because they spend so much time in boats HA HA only jokes

Any input would be good , i want to try some new places

Food Type: Chinese

Taste: 9/10

Service: 9/10 (you get little peanuts if you eat in )

Value: 8/10

Parking: It’s in Manuka so big coles car park and some street parking

Overall Review: Very nice food across the board. I had it last night actually if you got and eat in I suggest the following 5 Spice Squid, Duck Pancakes and the Red Curry Hot Pot... For a Chinese restaurant it is a little pricey but like most things in the world you get what you pay for + I think it won like Chinese restaurant of the year last year for the A.C.T

Business Name: Timmy's Kitchen

Location: Manuka

Food Type: Asian

Taste: 10/10

Service: 10/10

Value: 9/10

Parking: Depends but has a large undercover across the road. My favourite from all my time in ACT. Was there 3 weeks ago. The Lamb curry is awesome as is the Gulai Ayam and the Wu Wok Yu but I really love the Shantung chicken.

So many good places in Canberra and surrounds, would take forever to list them and time to get somewhere is so short. I'd rather live in Canberra again than Melbourne. Tak Kee has the best chinese BBQ I've had ever.

Business Name: Sammy's Kitchen

Location: City

Food Type: Malaysian/Chinese

Taste: 10/10

Service: 5/10

Value: 9/10

Parking: Bit difficult since they started constructing that new area.

I work in a restaurant, and come from a family who have all been chefs at some point in our lives, so we know what good food is, sammy's is one of the only restaurants in canberra that we'll eat at...

their shantung chicken is the best in canberra, to which no other place can match (apparently the owner mixes the sauce after hours so that no one can steal his recipe), and their rock salt calamari is perfect...

service is shit, same as at babar or lisboa for example, so they can turn over tables as quickly as they can, but food is awesome and very well priced.

Business Name: Ruby's/Jimmy's

Location: Dickson

Food Type: Chinese

Taste: 9/10

Service: 6.5/10

Value: 6/10

Parking: Dickson, not too hard

I've put these two together cos they're roughly the same. they're seafood menu is farken awesome, albeit expensive...i've never eaten from their normal a la carte menu, only been there for wedding receptions (ruby's twice), and pre set seafood lunches (jimmy's). lobster/crab/oysters rock, but yeh...expensive.

Food Type: The land of goat sphincter rings - ie dips, breads, pizzas, etc

Taste: 9/10

Service: 7/10

Value: 6/10

Parking: 4/10 - Kinda small, for some reason they have kinda thin parking bays, its strange.

Ohhhh i love this place, if you like The land of goat sphincter rings food this is the place to do. I'm actually drooling a little bit as i write this. Make the best Humas dip ever! Kinda expensive but if your addicted to it like i am, the taste outways the cost.

Business Name: The land of goat sphincter rings Palace (I think, cant remember exactly off the top of my head)

Location: Erindale

Food Type: The land of goat sphincter rings

Taste: 9/10

Service: 10/10

Value: 8/10

Parking: Lots of parking its in that row of shops that has dominos, pizza hut, kingsleys etc.

Awesome The land of goat sphincter rings place for southsiders (never been one south side). Service is excellent and food is always ready when they say it will be. The land of goat sphincter rings food always costs a little bit more, but one pide/pizza is $14 and will feed at least 2 people. On par if not slightly better than The land of goat sphincter rings Pide House in my opinion. They do some mean lemon+garlic+herbs lamb skewers with rice, and spicy salami and traditional chicken pides/pizzas. The parmesan chicken with aioli dip is awesome too... man im hungry now!

HAHAHA!!!

Business name: Kashmir House

Location: Narrabundah shops

Food Type: Indian

Taste: 10/10

Service: 8.5/10

Value: 9/10

this place is just awesome. once you've eaten this curry, anything else tastes pretty bland. the best ever rogan-josh, great vindaloo and good service. the resturant seems a little 'cheap', its pretty old, but it won best indian resturant the last 2 years running.....

Warning: curry could potentially cause dis-comfort to the rectal area. if a stinging sensation persists, see your doctor.....

Well Lee, that's just what I like, and strangely it's similar to the food I eat when I'm in those parts of the world, plus Elaine has been a good friend for years and I've never faulted Timmy's food or service once in the 14 years I've eaten there.

As for Ginseng, well I didn't rate it that great (although it could be better now) and the prices were 4/10 as they were too high. But I didn't tell you that your opinion was crap.

Thanks for being inconsiderate to others on the forum.

shame on you leigh.

why are the majority of places here asian restaurants? isnt there any good mediteranean food?

dunno what the service is like now, but Hogs breath (Civic is a nicer place to eat, unless you like the whole bush shed feel, then go to woden) is the bomb. but, i havent been there in a long time so it may have changed...

    • Update for the sake of closure   Ended up getting the intercooler piping all sorted, new plugs and yellow jacket coils, and she was idling mint until it warmed up while I was bleeding the cooling system. Found the misfire to be localised to cyl 3 by unplugging coilpacks, ran a compression test, that checked out, then decided to get a mate to check if that spark plug was firing out of the motor. Upon cranking it over, with the injectors disconnected, the car actually fired and ran on a couple cylinders and heaps of fuel came out the top of cyl 3 I'd say that injector's either spraying incorrectly or spraying far too much, which is fine as I'm planning on replacing them anyway I'm planning on making about 250kW on flex fuel, and have a set of 1000cc injectors from ozautosport, obviously overkill but I'm planning on building the motor and running more boost further down the line, do you reckon they'd be too big for a smooth idle on 98? Thanks for the replies gents, much appreciated
    • I'm confused. You said you want to "remove the clear coat from most panels" but it sounds like you are actually doing a full respray? Few random things to add -  If you chase the blistered paint with 120 grit, I can almost guarantee you'll chase it down to bare metal (that's fine). But if you paint the car from here, you'll have nice little indents where ever the blistered paint was. The new paint won't magically level out the low areas, you need to fill them. Which leads me to the main point I wanted to add, make sure the whole car is flat before you paint it. All those areas with blistered paint you sanded out, make sure to fill them and triple check they are flat with a block guide coat. I'd also check the whole car is flat with a large block and guide coat but yeah up to you if you want to go that far.
    • 300hp (225kw) is barely outside the standard turbo's range with a bit of extra boost in it (200ish). If you are going to change the turbo you should aim for 250-300kw (330-400hp) to make the expense worthwhile
    • A couple of things, firstly omg that turbo is expensive! $3,000 USD for dinosaur technology is robbery. You could buy a G series turbo and have a good amount of change instead.  If you want a good budget option, have a look here - https://hypergearturbos.com/product/rb25dethighflow/ If you are keen to spend more, have look at the modern turbos, Garrett G series, Borgwarner EFR, etc. Have a look at the RB25 dyno results thread for inspiration.  If you upgrade your turbo to something that will support the 300hp you want and only "probably" have Haltech ECU, your car will only "probably" run. Actually, no it won't run. You are going to need the ECU and injectors at the time you do the turbo upgrade.  No thoughts on "this much boost" as you didn't say how much boost that actually is. Having said that, plenty of unopened RB25's making even more power then what you are chasing.
