Guys,

For those of you that DONT keep up to date with current affairs, the NSW premier has announced a new police operation to cut down on "car-hoons"

The operation is said to involve police hiding cameras in unmarked cars in random places, and using the photos to get evidence of "hoons" (such as speeding) and will use this evidence to confiscate cars and impound them. This apparently(according to the new report) has already happened to 100 "hoons" here in Sydney

So heads up, and dont be an idiot on the roads - i know most of you are responsible drivers, but for the ones that cant help themselves speed, please dont speed at least over the next 6 weeks (time the operation will last) as it will bring bad attention to Skylines, and car enthusiasts everywhere.

If you really must speed, take it to a trackday.....check the events section for the next one coming up that SAU is holding

I would like to ask for someone with a legal background if they could please explain the law on this matter, as we have speed camera warnings for cameras (entrapment laws???), should there not be warnings that your car could be taken by a covert camera?

Stay safe guys - and keep your car in your possession

-Steve

This is what the speed unit looks like, these can be seen hanging from the roof lights or above the rear window on highway cars as most of you would know

Hoons are even filling their cars with aviation fuel, altering oil systems and lowering their cars

ohh look out! dont alter your oil system...

secret warehouse,, fark off i know exactly where all the cars are kept!!!!!! guranteed!

fair enough there are morons on the road, but i think this is getting a bit over extreme, not like sales people with fleet commonwhores gun it everywhere, grannys hold up traffic, certian minority groups swerve, cut off, and tailgate...

but its the "hoons" that get the headlines..

they should spend more time gettin the old timers off the road, that run over little kids!!!!!!!!!!!!

i havnt heard of any hoons running people over

its all the old people that complain about hoons and there the ones that cant drive!

I am sure the law cannot be enforced if challenged.

How can an offence carry a fine based on the car you drive.

If you get causght hooning in a $500 banger and it gets confiscated, but doing donuts in your $250,000 porsche and having it confiscated would not seem fair.

I am sure that the police would have no grounds to just take a car without serious offences.

This is just a way to rid the roads of P plate driving imports.

Very well said.

I would like someone with a legal background to weigh in on this topic if possible

once again they are ging to pick on us.. *crys*

im already being picked on by cops! . not fair. i got branded a hoon as soon as i bought a skyline by my bos and quite alot of other people. and now im going to get pulled over and hassled just because my car is 4cm lower to the ground then someone elses?

hmmm things like this just make me so fustrated. also being a p plater is like somthing people look down on now. as soon as they know that im a p plater in a import car, i get looked down on and instantly judged as hoon or someone who is a stupid driver and speeds, or what ever else.

no im not the worlds best driver by no means, and i know that i have alot to learn. but that doesnt instantly mean i am, or alot of other drivers who are still learning the skills of driving (P platers), are all idiots and hoons and dont give a damn to others.

the sooner i get off my green P's the better.. i hate the feeling of when i pull into the servo, or up my street, all the dirty looks i get, and so does alot of my friends..

    • I replaced the whole clutch line with the chase bays braided hose, I think it removes that loop, is it the short hose that comes immediately off the slave or is there a drawing in the manual to find what you’re referring to? It was just re-bled when I upgraded to the nismo slave, old slave worked fine but I thought that might help, didn’t change a thing. It’s like the first half of the pedal is pushing air and then when it finally actuates the master the friction zone is tiny. Makes it practically impossible to launch the car
    • Yep, that was one of the things we learned fast in the past with our MX5. When you drive with the top down, you are effectively standing out in the sun, 100% of the time, and not getting in any shade (because roads aren't shaded generally!). Just like standing out in the middle of a field on a sunny 27C day is a bit of a bad plan, so is sitting in a MX5 without sun protection.
    • I also just ordered some Frankenstein bolts and side mounts to fit a hard top Just in case I do find one, basically so it doesn't need to be fixed to the car with only the front latch.......and then gaffa tape to keep it in place for the RTN journey from wherever I get it
    • If your temps are fine now, you probably won't have any issues with where your vents are as they don't look right up at the windscreens high pressure area, so any differences when giving it the beans for extended happy laps would be minimal, but, they should vent heaps when stuck in traffic  Much like how that reverse cowl on my SS let "visible" heat out when stationary, but, because it was basically at the windscreen my coolant temps on the Hwy actually raised because air was being fed into it at speed (110kph), to only come back down to around 90° when I got off the Hwy And your 100% correct about the NC currently not needing vents, but, if I was to add a turbo, and a oil cooler and intercooler in front of the condenserand radiator, and then take it to the track???? It is apparently a recommend requirement if I don't want to worry about coolant or oil temp issues, but, any of the above are possible scenarios, over time As it sits now, with the triple pass radiator and stock air conditioning system, I have absolutely no issues with either temps or air conditioning efficiency, I've been basically daily driving thie car for the last month, both on the Hwy, and peak hour, bumper to bumper traffic, but, that's pretty much expected from basically a standard engine  Talking about no issues daily driving, it was 39° the other day and I was sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on the M5 and then M7, with the top down, and with the air conditioning blowing nice cold air on my feet, balls, and face, well, there was one issue, my head and arms got pretty sun burnt Note to self: leave a hat and sunscreen in the car for such days 🤣
    • I would agree, unless you need something specific to the HV motor/battery side repaired or investigated, any mechanic will be able to perform normal services, but if you prefer, maybe look for a mechanic who regularly services/repairs Nissans, the VQ engines are pretty common in the Nissan lineup.  Sorry, I can't make any suggestions, I don't live in Vic.
