I was defected for (no shit) not having a rego sticker displayed because it was stolen when it was

Obviously not displaying a valid sticker is not in that category, but we live in a state where doing a few k's over the speed limit is regarded almost as a firing squad offence, so there can be no real 'surprise' in it for you......at the end of the day you should have known. You also do realise that you have the option to appeal in writing over the fine and if you have a reasonable excuse the fine might be waived ??

In any event you seem to want to have a bit each way on this. I've seen you and others post here regarding getting 'smoky old bombs, etc' off our roads, and this at is least one of the purposes of stings like this along with the other things I mentioned. AFAIC that's a good thing and always will be. Unfortunately, yes, some will also be pinged for minor offences, but that's the luck of the draw. You can't seriously be suggesting that they shouldn't have random inspections ??.....think of the alternative: annual inspections which might also include some sort of emissions inspection if the EPA have their way (it's under serious discussion according to my sources).

I repeat, if you knowingly go out in the roads with illegal mods and get pinged for it, go have a look in a mirror for someone to blame......

I also got defected for brake light not working at the same time.

Which side was the brake light on that wasn't working?

Passenger side, or drivers side?

My brother got fined years back for having a brake light out.

He went and got some law books from the local library, and managed to get himself off on a technicality.

The law said something to the effect of...

providing the brake light located directly in front of the person driving behind you is functional, there's no problem.

Meaning that if it was the brake light on the passenger side which is out, you can probably tell them to stick it.

It may be worth investigating if this loophole still exists.

I'd pass a yearly inspection with my GTSR no problem as it would be done legitimately.

The roadside ones are very much pick anything in a "try our luck" scenario. They dont care if its not a legit defect.

The sad thing is you can be defected for anything, even if it isnt defective.

You are just handed a defect. Its not skin off thier nose if you take it to court.

Thats the core problem. There is no accountability for the Police. Although it will never happen......

The officer (if the case is lost by the Police) should be made to pay a proportion of the court fees out of thier own pocket rather than the Tax Payer.

Its pretty dumb that even if i win a case, im still paying for it through tax

Then you'd see people legitimately defected, not for some rubbish and stupid reason, that doesnt even hold up in the eye of the court.

cops are ghey, and always will be ... have to live with that, surely there are some good ones out there, cant say ive encountered any of them, ehehe, but these defect stations are good, and yet bad in the whole sence.

Sure they will defect a car that is clearly illegal to drive on the roads, be it an old car or new car, or performance car.

But if you come in ur skyline, u will get the whole yard, whoa, handbrake clicks to many times, meh, this thing, what ever it is, is illegal etc ...

im sure they pick on different cars harder than others

if i was a 40 + driver getting pulled over in a relativly new commodore/falcon. Im sure they wouldnt check the handbrake n other little insignifigant things.

Btw, the handbrake is a real grey area, cops say 3 clicks, vicroads state as long as it secures the vehicle, ffs, my gf, took her brand new (at the time) 03 civic in to the dealer to tell them, my handbrake goes to high, and clicks to many times, they said, we leave them like that otherwise it just wears out the brake pads ...

yeah ...

Yes a very good point u make. The same should apply to parking offices that get it wrong. There is just no incetive for the police to get it right in the first place.

Mayb start a petition to make police accountable for their mistakes. If u get enough pple to sign it as well as some influencial ppl, u never know.
