i dont have sponsorship BB, i prefer to work for my hard earned money and put that into my car. just as i like to turn my own spanners as much as possible. there more pride in that.

i can understand doing all the work on your car yourself but knocking back sponsorship in preference to using your own cash is a bit much to me. i would gladly take sponsorship money from anyone who would give it to me.

and sponsors couldnt give 2 shits about spectators buddy, if its not televised big sponsorship wont come through. go to an american sportcompact meet, there are basically no spectators, but because its televised, pretty much every competitor in pro street, equivilent version of our sport rwd has sponsorship.

people watching on TV are spectators too. i didnt feel a need to distinguish between the two. perhaps i wasnt clear, but i did mean spectators in general. people who sit in the stands or peolpe who watch on tv it's the same deal. if the event is broadcast but no-one watches then it wont be broadcast for long.

its all about television my friend.

i have built my car 110% soley for the fun and competition, why else would i build it, to cure my sex addiction? being the best guy on the day and taking home the trophy is what its all about.

i dont have a problem with that, but you mentioned before that part of it was prize money. so is simply countered that without spectators (people watching either on tv or in the stands) there wont be prize money for long.

your post clearly indicates why you sit in the stands, you dont understand the motivation for the guys consistantly qualifying in the top 10 racing.

that's a bit harsh. i was sitting in the stands because i wanted to support a form of motorsport, and i was excited to see if theo could crack an 8.

notice how i dont hide behind a internet name, neither does theo or buster or twoogle or 2rismo.

i wasnt aware 1jz747 was your real name, or that 2rismo was adrians real name either. my real name is below my avatar, how that is relevant though i have no idea whatsover.

you seem keen to win an argument i wasnt even participating in. i was merely expressing my opinion. i dont have any problem with you at all. i think you have a very nice, quick street car. not my particular cup of tea but there is no denying it's a great car.

since i just seem to end up repeating my self only to have every word of my post picked apart i'll try and leave this thread alone. no promises though.

Last time we forgot about the importance of spectators, which meant money for the track owners, we had no track to race on. I'm old enough to remember Castlereagh and what it meant when we didn't have it. Because at the time all we racers cared about was ourselves and our cars.

;) cheers :D

PS; just in case there is any doubt, I will repeat that I attach zero blaim to the other competitor.

I agree on all counts.

1/ Spectators are important to the event process

2/ You're old enough :)

3/ Zero blame for Daniel

BUT! (...and it's a big but...)

The governing body, the tracks and the promoters are the groups most responsible for getting the crowds to the events. Not the attitude of the guys racing their cars.

Adrian

mmm maybe the spectators that have such big opinions should race at a competitive event, they own skylines if we all had the same attitude and watched and whinged there would be no event either as no one would be racing

When I race I don't think about the other car as I have enough to think about without worrying about them aswell the only time I worry is if they're still in front as I cross the finish line this is especially with DYO as if I block them out and run my own race I know I'm more consistant and have to adapt my staging/driving style to each event as the rules apply to all of us not just one of us

As for staging to quick I rush into stage so I have time to build boost to be honest I don't give a flying f*ck, at freaky friday street car shootout in the semi final I rushed into stage brought the car up on boost and waited what seemed like for ever for the other car to stage which by then I had heak soaked everything and I was down on mph and lost but had the 10 sec rule been applied there I mightn't of near cooked everything and may of been able to race on Sunday but as it goes you win some and you lose some

thats racing

Brett

This "20 second rule" was always going to show its ugly head when brackets have 9 sec cars vs 14 sec cars. The slow guy just hops right in to stage and the faster guy has a bigger burn out and heaps of checks to do on staging. Its not usually a prob (only in Pro Stock where they have a staging duel) with the V8 guys cause there are rarely races with cars that vary by 5 seconds. Its bulls#@t having a 1000 hp 155+ mph car vs a 250 hp street car. Other Andra classes have et cutoffs so you dont get a 14 sec street car vs a 9 sec Super Sedan in competion. Id hate to be Theo waiting on the tree for 5 secs on the handicap-thats rubbish. Top qualifyer shouldnt get that bum deal in any class of drag racing

I understand that spectators are important, not sure that they come to watch SRWD, agree that 9 sec passes are awesome, but think they get there monies worth overall. Do you think the PAC boys gave a shit when they backed the car out on their final run, thousands of people were waiting for that pass, and nothing happened. I think its the promoters job to keep the crowd happy, not the racers. There is something to take from everybodys point of view. hopefully people involved are reading this thread and taking note. I still think racing was good, even with the heavy hitters out early which was unfortunate, but some gread drag racing. Shanes win over Daniel in the semi was as close as you will see, both cars getting driven out the back door. and the final runs were as close as you will see, even with the f**k up, well done to those who competed, and bad luck and better luck next time to those who didnt have the best day including myself, incase you didnt see me brake out by 2 weeks, very funny.

Tha's exactly what I was about to say. Also at the first sports compact meet in sydney all of the classes except for et1,2 and 3 were heads up. That I know for a fact is why theo made his gtr so damn fast. Then they buggers changed it to DYO. If he had of known this was going to happen he prbably wouldn't of built the car to go fast. With the old twin turbo setup the car was super consistent running mid tens. Even won a few street meets with it back then.

All the GTR batty boys having a cry ... get over it the rules apply to everyone or should we make exceptions for GTR's or maybe a new class for GTR's maybe even make it a 2 car field so the GTR can't lose

ITS A SREET CAR CLASS IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT DON'T RACE IN IT ... DO YOU SEE RIGOLI IN IT ... NO ... THAT IS UNLESS YOUR SCARED OF BEING THE LITTLE FISH IN THE BIG POND OF SPORT MOD BECAUSE IF IT WASN'T FOR THE SLOW STREET CARS IN SRWD THERE WOULD BE NO SRWD

Nothing stopping these guys running oz mod, besides you dont have too make excuses for them, Theo and Mark obviously dont have a problem with it and are happy running where they are. Im sure they will tell you that thats racing, shit happens.

How do new guys to drag racing get training in "racecraft"?

Yeah, good point. I would say that at a minimum new racers should go to as many group one events as possible and watch carefully how the pros do it. If the starter motions them forward for dilly dallying and DQs those guys for taking too long to stage, then it should be obvious what's going to happen at a pissant SC event.

Not really the question, 16 seconds is not "too long to stage", I have seen Group 1 cars take 30 to 40 seconds.

Another good point. But have you ever sat in full stage at launch RPMs waiting for the other competitor to get good and ready? How often do you like to replace your turbo? How does you rvalvetrain like that two step after 20 seconds? And what does that EGT do for your performance?

Im no GTR boy crying-sold all my GTR's. Just with 20 years of drag racing experience I cant believe there are 9 sec cars racing 14 sec cars in any class in competion. Hopefully when more GTR's come on line there can be a GTR class like at the HKS meetings in Japan-beat by far to watch, rather than one or two 7 sec RWD cars you get 15-20 8/9 secs GTR in one class- maybe one day here in Oz :D

This is what people are discounting completely in this situation. Thanks Kenny. :D

Adrian

Agree completely, will be good racing, not sure where everybody is saying that there was a 14 second car running though, The car Theo ran qualified with a 11.8 @ 120 which is fairly solid for a RB25, he nursed a clutch problem which saw him back the boost off, car was still running 12.18 in the finals. The only reason it ran a 14 against Theo was because he was still waiting for Theo to stage 2 seconds after he had been shown the green light. People have been blubbering about sportsmanship, this alone proves that this incident was unintentional. Will be very happy to run any other RB25 powered Skylines that have run mid 11s, Just goes to show that alot of you like to throw your 20cents in even though you werent there to see exactly what took place. Suggest you all strap a helmet on and have a go instead of telling everybody else how to race.

the no 16 quailfier has been 11.8 for 3 out of the 4 sport compact meets this year. 12.8 was number 16 on sunday due to mark and paul not qualifying.

I'm pretty sure Jeff qualified the blue datto with a 13.3 or 13.1. At least that's what I remember reading on the board.
