Hi team, had my 100,000k service done the other day and was forgot to ask my mechanic once question:

When they go to put your crank angle sensor back on over your timing cover, how do they know if its at the same spot it was before? Do they mark on the bolts where it sat?

Cheers

There is only one way it can be replaced - assuming that the half-moon key on the camshaft hasn't broken.

You can mark the position of the CAS before disassembly, but you really should check ignition timing when it's all back together to make sure it's right.

002doc,

They don't need to know where it used to sit as they set the timing to 15degree's BTDC. So where it lands is where it lands, thats the correct position for 15degree's BTDC.

However... It will land pretty much int he origional spot UNLESS they have stuffed up the cam belt timing or your running adjustable cam gears. :D
