its called AVWG, Australian Vehicle Warranty Group, normally they can not be purchased privately. you have to purchase your car through the dealer to get them. you can give them a call to find out....

as for them not being worth the paper they are written on

i easily got repairs worth more than i paid for my warranty, so it was worth it for me

all they ask is that you service teh car regularly, which you should be doing anyway

even when a non certified mob did some work that was covered under warranty (replaced the engine fan) they sent me a cheque to cover its cost

i was pretty happy
