how much is cheap??

if you stick with the rb30e idea then adding a VL turbo set up is the way to go $1000 for all parts needed then install and a bit of wiring??

your stock exhaust will need to go, 3" full system $900-1500

FMIC $500 with piping?? maybe

new fuel pump $300

this should get a good street 150rwkw, with good tuning 170rwkw

depending on what the rest of the car is like you may need suspension and a brake upgrade..$$$$$

when every you want to get more power the bills always go up too....

You want the ultimate sleeper?

$2500 will buy you a front /half cut with a VH45DE.

This is 4.5L 32V V8 & 206Kw and over 300Nm of torque.

Go have fun & enjoy.

I'm investigating putting a 1UZFE out of a Celsior in my MX83 Cressida.

That's 4.0L 32V Quad Cam all alloy V8. 206Kw @ 5400 & 360Nm @ 4000

Cheers, D

I assume you will be doing the necessary brake, steering and suspension upgrades first?

If it's a drag only car, then knock yourself out. Whack a twin turbo v8 in there and have fun running 11 second quarters.

If you want a sleeper to scare other guys at track days, then a healthy suspension upgrade will make you a lot faster around a track than the same $$ spent on a balltearer engine. (learing to drive properely will be an ever better way to go fast)

If you want to win traffic light races, then buy yourself a PS2 and a copy of GT4. The last thing we need is another "budget" street warrior death trap out there in the hands of an inexperienced driver. Don't mean to sound harsh (well, actually, yes, I do) but I've seen too many guys nearly kill themselves in 20-30 year old cars with massive engine upgrades, and standard everything else.

I assume your having a dig at me! so I will answer a bit of your uneducated statements.

1. As for your "learn to drive properly" comment. When you can do 49.6 around Oran Park come and talk some more.

2. Where has anything been said about anything TURBO in a V8?????????????

3. As for suspension etc etc etc. The guy asked what he could do to make a sleeper on the reletive cheap. And rsx84 has already addressed the brake suspension etc issue & it's $$$$$$'s, or did you conveniently miss that.

Are you aware that the ALL ALLOY VH45 V8 weighs less than an RB30E cast iron block & alloy head combo, so I don't know if there is any great need for any huge suspension upgrade in the R31.

As for my MX83, I bet you also don't know that a series of the Chaser in Japan of that vintage, that most of the Cressida's in Oz are based, came out with a 2500 DOHC 24V twin turbo motor pumping 206Kw and the same running gear I have standard and that the all alloy 1UZFE V8 is also lighter than the 7MGE standard motor.

And theoretically the V8 will sit further back, distributing the load more evenly between the axles, which is by far a better handling equation than standard.

Guess that should settle that eh!

There is just one thing we are overlooking, and that is we don't know what he wants to do with it and if he wants to be a street racer, it's his business and none of ours, but rsx84 has also addressed, NOTHING in HP gains comes CHEAP and the gains are all relevant to $$$'s spent.

IF it was mine, I would be doing a GTS2 spec RB30E and leave it at that as 140Kw n/a and looking like nothing has been done will always be as good as any 150Kw of a VL Turbo which everyone thinks is quite a weapon off the showroom floor.

I seriously think that it is important for comments on this forum DISCOURAGE

street racers. In all Ghostriders comments he stresses the need for safety first. If your going to make it GO, first you have to make it HANDLE and STOP.

Ask Allan Moffat how he got the rules at Bathurst upgraded so you could modify a V8 so the package could handle the Kw.

Better to build a Drifter. Track Only.

my sleeper is an rb20det.... but i have upgraded everythin around it before the motor.... i have 30omm vt commo rotors with r32 type m 4 piston calipers on the front... new rear brakes, booster and 1 inch master cylinder of a mid 80's 280C..... workin on steering at moment.... suspension has been llowered and stiffened in the front and the rear is to come....

also fitting a factor lsd that will handle the power ( combination of centre from one car and axels from another)

have upgraded fuel system with twin 8mm lines front to rear, twin fuel pumps and surge tank.... decent cooling ( 3 core 16mm fin radiator) and a few other saftey mods to boot.....

do everythin round it first before ya play with the motor... that6 way you are garanteed it will stop and pefore before ya go silly under the hood.

No, ghost rider, I wasn't talking to you.

Chill, dude :P

Warps,

Your 100% correct, I should bow out for a time as I have heaps on my mind at present.

Couple of things though, and we should help this guy where we can.

My first thoughts are towards "SLEEPER" Most people that want a sleeper want to be traffic light heroes I would guess and it should be noted none of us here condone this sort of sh!t.

Let's just talk economics first.

With say zero brake and suspension upgrades go get yourself a GTS2 engine and ECU or spec an RB30E up to the same. You get yourself 140Kw at the fly and that's more than your going to need to get yourself into more trouble than it's worth. For less dollars, the GTS1 package will get you 130Kw which is still pretty cool as the stock RB30E was good for just 114Kw at the fly.

Take away between 25 & 30% loss going through the drive train and you still have a formidable streeter.

If you want to put this 140Kw into perspective, the VL Turbo gets just 150Kw and they seem to be the bench mark for anything with an RB30E up front.

After this, the sky is the limit, you got the dollars, we can tell you how to get the HP and believe it or not 300 at the wheels is relatively easy, but suspension & brake improvements will get you better handling and therefore quicker point to point.

Cheers, D

Good one D. The Dude might (a) live longer and more importantly(b) not kill or maim some innocent.

In the last months that I know of there have been three deaths in Skylines.

2 in an RMR30, and one in an R32/33, could not tell from the wreckage.

Dont bow out Dennis. Mature heads are wise heads and this Forum needs them.

there is not much chance you would find a GTS2 RB30 motor for the simple fact that there was only 200 ever made and there a classic and nearly any one that owns one wouldn't wreck one unless it was the only option but what ghost rider said about just building a Gts2 replica motor is a realy gd idear all they have is a stage three cam with machiened lifter blocks to suit, a piggy back ecu to modify the timing and injector pulse width a g-ready e manage would be more than adiquit and they only cost about $600-$700 which is cheap for an ecu, a mild port and polish, extractors, and a 2 1/2 exhaust they are gd for about 140kw (190hp) a stock vlt only makes about 150kw (200hp) or the other option is to go turbo and id say an rb20det would be a better option they are 160kw stock standard you could probally pic one up for the same sort of price that it would cost you to turbo the rb30 and you could then get the ecu, loom, and engine mounts from an jap spec r31 which came out with an rb20det in them and it shuld go straight in in my opinion the rb20det is a much better way to go

Hey Ghostrider, it wouldn't have anything to do with this, now would it? :D

No Matt T,

That is not what's on my mind.

I know about that car, Zeb has been trying to sell it for some time, I am interested in it's outcome, primarily to see what he gets for it. I don't know that he will get the $9500 he is asking, but we can only wait and see.

Unfortunately, these cars are only valueable to the most serious & dedicated Nissan owners.

I will probably be buried in mine :ermm:

My problem goes a bit different to that: Just so everyone understands, I have an 85 yo mother recently assessed with serious/substantial dimentia and a 91 yo father that is unlikely to see next christmas, so I guess I'm not thinking straight all that often these days.

Cheers, D

PS. If I offend or have offended anybody in recent times please accept my apologies

fyi ghostrider, the vh45de doesnt fit between the strut towers of an r31, but the vh41de on the other hand...

Yeah! I guessed that today when I had a look at my mates.

He is putting a VH45DE into a 600SLE Coupe. And I believe it's a fairly common transplant into old mercs.

I spoke to another friend who does LPG installations and 2 of his clients have done the same.

Cheers, D
