Sorry I disagree with you guys here on this one.

Well, you're wrong, mate. Not trying to be nasty but the combined experience of the drag racers I know is in the hundreds of years and they ALL disagree with you.

Adrian

ever thought about the fact you may have f**ked up a gear change.
We are discussing the effects a 60ft time has on the TS, not gear changes (which is a whole different kettle of fish). Gear changes will also effect the TS because the longer it takes you to change gears the less distance their is available for your engine to accellerate.

As I said it's all a numbers game.... http://my.execpc.com/~culp/space/physics.html

In an attempt to settle this (kinda :woot: ), I'm going to WSID tonight...well I was going anyway!

I usually badly bomb the 60' on my first run of the night with a load of wheelspin due to not having enough heat in my tyres, typically something in the region of a 2.1 short time.

I'll let you know what my mph is on this run.

I'll then compare it to the mph from my best run of the night with hopefully a substantially quicker 60' - usually around a low 1.8ish...

Before anyone asks, yes my car is a manual, but I've had a lot of runs previously and I'm usually fairly consistent once I get to grips with any changes to the car so this shouldn't really come into the equation for the sake of this comparison.

I'll let you know how I go ;)

Your not being nasty, your expressing your point of view based on your experience which is totally valid - I am doing the same and I hold no grudge and have no hard feelings :P

yes my car is manual and i do realise that there is that bit of questioning when it comes to gear changes and TS but in my honest opnion (and not for the sake of making a point on a thread) I can say the gearchanges are pretty consistant...

However.

A supra up here I know and used to help tune made 550rwhp at the treads- though the stock auto trans.

1st run 12.8 @ 124.2 mph (2.4 60ft)

2nd run 12.4 @ 127.2 mph (2.3 60ft)

nothing touched or changed - just a better 60 foot

Im just going on what I have seen in real life experiences...

Also comes to the discussion (not arguement) on does a better time equal more terminal speed?

Adrian is right,

I've got an eg:

R33 GTS-T around 270rwkw's...

Run at willobank: Street tires

best time: 13.4 @ 118mph with 2.2 60fter

same car differnt track, and i know their are variables with air temps and what have you but the car was tuned in brisbane.

Townsville Drag way: - shit traction so we have old set of MT street radial,

best time: 12.5 @ 116mph with 2.0 60fter.

Im asuming that you where running less power at townsville due to the humidity and generally hotter air temps. You where running less power so you hooked up better.

This is just an assumption, not saying your right or wrong...

  • 3 weeks later...

I agree with 2rismo .. seen it many times over lots of different cars for eg

My S1 R33 Auto 4door

Sat night just gone , ran these numbers.

12.850 @ 113.63 2.263 60'

Then ran a 12.366 @ 113.35 1.938 60'

Gary

The TS is a direct result of the engines power and what car it has to get down the track (weight/ aero etc)

I have stuffed my 60 foot big time - 1.4 instead of 1.1 (in a dragster) and the 1.4 60' got me 188.65mph and the 1.1 60' got me 188.44mph. I ve seen big powered cars way off their 330' time due to tyre shake or whatever and then get a full power run from there and run right on their TS.. eg Top Alky dragster ran 7.11 sec @ 227mph and then the next run did a 5.87 @ 229 mph ( not a shut off pass)

Ben, you have to actually make 60' to comment :ninja:
You mean a 10 minute 60ft time with the help of a tilt tray isn't normal for a GTR? :ninja:
The TS is a direct result of the engines power and what car it has to get down the track (weight/ aero etc)
That is where I partially disagree. The TS is determined by more than just power and weight - slow gear changes, slow launch, torque, traction are all just as equal as power.
