Just looking at upgrading my turbo soon (rb20det), r32 gts-t Type Mcurrently have the following mods

3 inch turbo back exhaust

Unknown cat converter

pod filter/sectioned off

running 12 psi

FMIC

Performance suspension

Looking to make the thing a bit faster. Dont car about how many KW ill be pulling (expect 190-200)

Looking at the 25 series 2 turbo with the nylon wheel. Dunno if ill be able to afford a highflowed one unless i get 2nd hand or something, heard quite a few different prices but was hoping for somewhere around 800 or 900 installed.

Anyway just looking through the dyno thread sticky and most people just post KW's not 1/4 mile times, although one guy posted a time of 14.65.. which is like .15 better than a stock 32 gts-t. Weirded me out. Any one give me a rough idea of what i should expect to pull on the 1/4 (e.g. how much better than the stock 14.8) on some good quality performance tyres with performance suspension with my mods and the 33 turbo? Perhaps the time rough amount faster the highflowed is gonna be, would help to if u know that.

If its not significantly better then ill just leave it without the bigger turbo, and try to make do with what i have :D

Did try do a search but the criteria is to open and at the same time to specific to get some decent results. if anyone finds otherwise, feel free to post that link here for me :D

Some 0-100's would be handy to (stock gts-t's hitting that in about 6.9 i think)

You can get 160-170 on most RB20's running about 12-14psi depending on a few things...With a RB25 turbo your probably looking at about 180 mayb a few more at the rears...

As mad082 said, it comes down to driving, and how the car is setup. If you have crap tyres and crap suspension you cant expect to get a very good time because u will have trouble trying to put any of this power to the ground anyway regardless of what power your making. i would say high 13's is quite realistic with supporting mods. But that sed...all depends on the conditions on the day aswell.

Yeh tru all that, i think its reasonably well set up with full springs shocks under konig brand name (very damn hard suspension) and some 17X7 dunlop SPMAXX's which are top of the line (not to mention i weigh 55 kilos :)). Totally messed up somewhere in my readings somewhere though. Forgot to mention that i will Probably be running 14 psi on the new turbo with a remapped ecu but yeh. High 13's would be just wat i want, especially if i can get it with the series 2 turbo without having to have a highflowed one. The car could be quite detrimental to the ego's of stock $60000 performance cars everywhere with acceleration like that, sounds just about right

running the extra 2 psi = no power gain and shorter turbine life? I have read of quite a few people running 14 psi so i assumed it would be relatively safe.. Cant see how it wouldnt equal a power gain though.. Up to a point more psi = more power.. you could probably get more power all the way until 20 or something id say (read something somewhere about flow and such which seemed to imply that too much compression would equal slow flow or impeded flow rates, something like that)

correct me if im wrong

you wont be running 14psi for long, maybe 6 months to a year. Wont you be just adding a hole lot of heat for no power gain

Its on an RB20... just incase you've missed that posted a dozen times.

RB20 you can run a little more than the R33

whoa whicked if i can hit something like that ill be very happy, time to start looking around for a turbo to lob on. Guess the for sale section is a good place hehe.

My old R32 with remapped ECU (thanks to Matt Spry) and standard turbo pushing 12psi managed a 14.3 on my first run with G-Tech. Tuned for 15psi I managed a number of runs between 13.7 and 13.9 (again with G-Tech).

Yeh tru all that, i think its reasonably well set up with full springs shocks under konig brand name (very damn hard suspension) and some 17X7 dunlop SPMAXX's which are top of the line \

Hard suspension will make your time worse, and 17x7 are the size of your rims, not tyres.

I am taking this from another thread which may have a generous dyno, but still none the less it prooves 160-170rwkw is easy (ive seen that on stock rb20 turbs) and 180+rwkw is a good goal for an rb20 with 33 turbo, obviously the 34 turbo will make a tiny bit more than a 33 turbo as im sure you aware.

You should be able to do a mid 13 with an rb25 turbs if you are a good driver :)

You can run a little more boost on the RB20 with the RB25 turbo as the engine is smaller in size with supporting mods and 14psi 200rwkw is probably possible but im not sure how long the turbo would last at that boost level.

I managed a 13.6@105 with a crap 2.4 second 60 footer on a 30 degree day, with my R33 first time at drags. So in your case with similar power less weight better tyres and suspention high 12's may not be out of the question.

Hard suspension will make your time worse, and 17x7 are the size of your rims, not tyres.

Ohh really? I suppose it IS set up for handling, uhm so tighter suspension = more bouncing, is that it? Wouldnt tighter suspension stop the sag more and help distribute weight around more evenly on take off. Not sure on suspension stuff

And yeh i know 17X7 is the size of my rims, the car was nowhere near me. There 225/45R17 Dunlop SPMAXX's which is basically dunlops top performance tyre so i think there cool for a bit.

Curious though, you 2 guys who ran mid 13's were your 33 turbo's high flowed? series 2 or 1?

Thanks (had to spend $1000 getting a new computer to get onto SAU, just when the turbo was within my grasp demit)

And yeh i know 17X7 is the size of my rims, ill post tyre size a lil later on, the car was nowhere near me. Its still not near me but they are very well fitted (did em myself :P) and definitely not to small for the rim, the sidewalls buldge slightly as a rim protector (with to thin a tyre they won't sit out) so there definitely wide enough to be putting the power down alright (can drop the clutch at about 4k RPM and get pretty good pickup).

do a search for posts by sydney in regards to drag suspention.

cheers

Well i made 162rwkw @ 14psi on a stock RB20 turbo.

Full exhaust, re-map, fuel pump and thats about it.

Dunno how but hey i was happy for so little mods.

But there are always those freak motors around etc so i'd be expecting maybe 170ish from a R33 turbo but you never know i suppose so whack it on the dyno and find out!

    • Shit thing to find eh? I guess the big issue is that whatever "fix" you do now, it might slow the rust down but won't fix it. I just wanted to add that in no way is fixing sheet metal in 3 dimensions the place to start with welding....that is a pro only job because its too hard to work out where things should be, let alone doing a clean enough job that it can look OK and still be strong too.  I needed to get a new rear quarter panel on the GTR and it took a pro weeks to get the old one off cleanly, new one on in the right place and looking somewhat like it should have with most of the previous connecting panels in place. Gluing a couple of bits of metal together with a welder in the garage is doable, but that is totally different to doing panel  replacement
    • This seems to be a very popular swap since all the turbo skyline prices went through the roof! I'll let someone more familiar chime in, but I understand that yes you probably want to swap the loom in to swap out the auto TCM stuff. You should not assume everything just plugs in either, you need to check at least the ECU wiring diagram for any differences at the plug at the left headlight and probably the ones near the ECU that join the dash loom too
    • hows it fellas, my first post here which seems crazy cos half the forums i read are like the same age as me haha. to make a long story short ive got an r34 sedan (rb25de neo auto) which im swapping to a s0/s1? rb25det, r33 big box and nismo gt pro lsd. i have the motor and gearbox all bolted up outside the car, old motor and trans out. i bought the motor with stock ecu and loom, do i switch over to that? or will it be easier to get a r34 manual ecu and keep the loom if thats even possible.  also engine mounts look different, anything else thats different or incompatible? cheers, hope this all makes sense Paddy

    • Plan on the day will be to park trackside. Depending on space availability we will try put a small shade tent and a few of the cars on top of the hill inside turn 3, this is an easy to get to parking area with views of Turn 2, Turn 3, Turn 4 and Turn 5 and limited other pieces of the view around the track. IMPORTANT NOTE! One consideration from previous years is from memory the trackside parking sells out before the admission tickets, for that reason I encourage anyone planning on coming to buy tickets for parking now via the official website; https://www.worldtimeattack.com/ The type of parking you are looking for is 2 Day Park & View (Access Around Venue) Vehicle Pass Only Please note this does not include admission to the event itself, remember to grab that also, and kids under 12 get in for free!
