ohh there u go, crossmember, thats where i jack it off of. Whoa i was way off on the name.. For $30 at supercheap you can buy yourself some of those wedges u can drive the car up onto, get enough height to swing a trolley under. Bought some yesterday, quite good, wish i had had them before i did the intercooler install

no to gearbox or sump!

There are 2 main crossmembers and another one under the radiator (which I don't use)

At the back is the gearbox cross member holds the back of the gearbox to the chassis rails....can't see it in your pic but it would only be a little towards the back.

But the main cross member is the black bit right at the front of your pic, you can see the steering arms and rack that go right above it. Also all the suspension arms and engine mounts also bolt to it.

I've just noticed my r33 dosn't have a scissor jack in the boot. Every other car i've seen does. Do they come with a standard jack and mine has been taxed somewhere down the line ??

Its hidden behind the carpet on the left hand side.. you need to remove the trim

What's the problem following the intructions in the manual as someone posted earlier. Doesn't that tell you where to jack the car up from and where to put the jack stands? How can this not be safe and how can it damage/crush anything? Why would nissan write it in their service manual if it wasn't the right way to do it?

also be very careful if you are putting the jack under the side of the front subframe, the lower control arm is not safe - it moves relative to the chasis when you jack the car up.

chasis rails are OK to put stands under *if* you use the thicker area towards the front and let the car down slowly. even better if you have to do this use a piece of wood on top of the chasis stand along the rail to spread the weight.

at the rear, like the pic says, use the diff or rear subframe.

the sils are a no no they wil crush for sure unless you are using the nissan scissor jack or a hoist with rubber pads (and sometimes even then)

Is it okay to still use the cross member if it’s got a slight bend/curve. I’m first owner and car was imported from Japan but didn’t see this. A mechanic showed me with the hoist and I was wondering if they’re allowed through compliance with that lol. The bend is inwards with the bend tip facing up towards the rest of the car, it’s very slight.

I’ll get pic tommorow! When you say might be an issue, do you mean I may need an alignment or will alignments be hard to do.

    • It's something we all have to consider as time marches on. Also consider lifted rally MX5 conversion at that point.
    • I should be fine for a few more years, whilst I do have arthritis I also exercise and do mobility training every day to keep as fit and healthy as I can, military life, which is the actual cause of most of my joint issues, has set daily regimes, which I weirdly enjoy I also train alot smarter now, not really focusing on lots strength or puffy muscles, I'm more focused on maintaining what I have for my future older self, I actually train as much mobility now as I do exercising Check out this "simple" drill I have been doing daily prior to training now for a while now, this has worked wonders in my all round mobility   
    • I'd say one thing that may make you sell is the same reason the guy with the hard top roof sold his. He got old, and his back was giving him too much grief stopping him getting in and out... Old guy said he was 73! He looked and sounded younger than 73 to me! Or maybe I'm just aligning with old people more...
    • Already looked at a few prior to getting the MX5, really nice car, had all the mod cons, but I wasn't really sold on the new "look" I did miss my 2017 Limited, and I personally prefer the "look" of the older car over the new model, but, when pondering I kept going back looking at MX5's But it was same same for the new ND's, I wasn't sold on the new "look", especially the RF with its weird roof, which only half goes down, like a targa top sort of thing As I stated before, I did look at NC's, but the cars I looked at were PRHT's, but I didn't like their roof line "look" of the PRHT, until I saw the soft top version, (someone on SAU posted a for sale ad for one with a soft top that caught my attention, you can blame them for my choice.....🤣) and.... that old style detachable hard tops were available for them, which keeps the old MX5 more smoother flowing roof line, and the more rounded body style, similar to the NA-NB, to me, the arse end of the ND looks to "modern" Much like how I prefer the NC1 front bar, over the later models How long will I keep this car for is unknown, but currently, there's nothing else out there that "floats my boat" for a small, fun, little "sports car", that I can play with and enjoy looking at and driving But, who knows what the future holds, and going off current new car styling, if I replace it, it will be a older model something something
