I have an R32 front clip. How can you tell from a VIN if a clip is an early or late R32? Also, if it has a speedo cable, i assume it is an early R32?

Is it in the VIN (model) or chassis #? any help is appreciated. thanks

If the dash is still attached, the easiest way by far is the speedo dials, the older r32's have blue dials, the newer are black b/ground, assuming it hasnt been changed, but probably worth doin a VIN check to find out for sure! As far as i know the newer version came out late 91, but im really not sure.

Geoff when looking at the vehicle build plate, blue, there will be a build date. The code you will see will be the year of reign of the current emperor. Look for the following codes, and look at the corresponding year in the Gregorian calendar.

  • H1 - 1989
  • H2 - 1990
  • H3 - 1991
  • H4 - 1992
  • H5 - 1993
  • H6 - 1994

However, r32line is correct, a good start will be if the dash instrument cluster is grey faced rather than blue. However that is any easy item to change.

also earlier 32s had bloth material seats and trimmings

later model have velour

Sorry but this is wrong: Most R32s have the black/grey cloth interior.

There was a lighter grey velour option available - more like the GTR style.

There was also a black leather option I've been told.

You cant tell from the cloth if an r32 is series 1 or 2.

hey guys, thanks so much for the responses. Im still totally unsure about this! The blue plate says the following:

E-BNR32

Chassis no: BNR32-009640

KH2 G

RB26DETT 2568

FS5R30A RC41

So whatever you guys can take away from this i appreciate!!! The carpet is grey cloth, and the tach is black with orange needles?

thanks guys

A few changes that I know of mate,

Series 1 R32= blue face instrument cluster, RB on timing case, silver GT badge on side, steering wheel (not sure)

Series 2 r32+= grey face cluster, no RB on timing case, red/white GT badge like R33, R33 style steering wheel, also interior plastic like dash (rippled orange peel look)

Cheers

Anyone know anything about 60th anniversary r32?

Now you have me confused, my 32 is a 93 model, and wen i lookd at my blue plate in engine bay, under chassis number is sum jap writting and next to that - KH2, but mine is a '93 like i said

:D ??

Hrmm, having a read around, it seems this code is realted to the colour of the car, so i dont know where else to look for H6 (in my case)
