Changing The Speedo On My R32 Gtr

I bought a white set of dials for my R32 GTR, but I'll have to move the dials over from the new combo meter to the old since the "wires" on the back of the combo meters aren't the same. The new speedo differes a bit from the old one though, and I'm not sure what to do about it. I took some pictures, drew a little and added some text below the pics. If anyone has any input on what the stuff on the old speedo is and does, and whether or not I have to have it on any speedo that I put in my car, I would highly appreciate the info.
