that's one sexy camera.. for one sexy boy

hey I got a safety cert for the pulsar.. I think I have a buyer picking it up next week, but if not it still might be available.

Let me know how it pans out.. I'm in no hurry keeping my "cheap" options open. I would have kept it as is, as I only need a dunga for a few more months.

Yeah, usually 'cheap' cars end up costing you money anyhow..

Having 2 cars that aren't shitboxes costs a bit to keep on the road.

haha so true.

More so Lexus, even more so the LS400. I have receipts for $13k in repairs and maintenance.

Parts for the LS are cheap from the US as they actually have 3rd party replacements for most of the common things, instead of the $exus official parts. Just going to import all mine, fit myself, save the dollah.

Don't think much really needs to be done to mine anyhow for a while. Just going to keep it stock for a year or so anyhow. After that may think of things to mess with it.

The only upgrade's I did were coilovers and an exhaust, the rest were just fixing shit that broke/I broke/the last owner should have done.

200,000km service was something like $1800ish- $2k Yeh they saw me comming

yeah.. mine will be ticking over 300,000km in about a year.. better start saving now..

Not going to take it to lexus though for the 100k thing.

I think the engine is non-interference.. so I may even give it a crack myself. If i stuff the timing belt it's just not gonna work, and I do it again.

Fark me 300k! haha, in comparison to others and even the American cars that seems normal though. How are your valve steam seals holding up? Not sure on the non-interference, would take all of 5 min's on club lexus or lexterem to find out though.

It's the same colour of mine isn't it?

Yeah.. done 271,000 - then again, for $8k I ain't complaining.. figured half-cut for a new engine would cost $3k or so at worse.

How can I tell the steam seals are worn?

mine is copper/brown

Fark that seems cheap for a Lexus, I'm cutting myself right now.. Wholesaled mine off *again* to a mate for $9500 only just painted too. I know I could have got $14k. oh well.

Valve steam seals normally show wear around mid to high 250k. In terms of how to tell, does it blow any smoke on start up? or if they are bad under throttle, but not when you lift off.

It'won't really affect its performance.

I might have considered yours for around that price.. ahh well..

I wasn't even really looking for a new car particularly, just was on carsales the other week as I was getting a bit sick of the pulsar - had a look at the LS400, and saw this one. Owners were having a baby or some such like next week, and had 2 other Lexus so they didn't really need a 3rd one..

Joe idiot public hears 'v8' these days and runs 1000km away.. even though so far it's getting 11km/100L on the highway, which is the same as any 6.. and only a bit more than the pulsar.. ha

You can pick up a 1uzfe motor from $1000

cool.. did think if i do mod it may get another motor built, with massive blower, scooping the bonnet and pop that in.. would be funny

cheaper than a decent rb26 build probably too :(

    • Yes...but look at the numbers. There is a tiny tiny fraction of the number of Joules available, compared to what is used/needed. Just because things are "possible" doesn't make them meaningful.
    • Thanks for taking the time to post that ! If anything changes or happens please do update us.
    • Somehow Vertimass/Oak Ridge National Labs has figured out a catalyst that can convert ethanol into C9-C10 hydrocarbons in basically a single step without ending up with a bunch of ethylene or similar waste products: https://patents.google.com/patent/WO2023224867A1/en I still don't think anything like this will keep us from needing to transition to EVs regardless along with all kinds of other electrification, but things like this will go a long way towards alleviating the problem of how to electrify things like planes. Renewable diesel is seemingly an easier problem as well, Chevron is already running refineries for the stuff and the primary feedstock is tallow and other waste fats from agriculture.
    • Ok so I have sorted everything with my uniclutch and  i can offer up a bit of feedback and some things that might help others.    I found problems with factory damper line. Weird shit and had trouble with peddle adjustment    I used this https://au.gktech.com/products/r33-gts-t-skyline-braided-clutch-line?_pos=2&_sid=22b01b9b9&_ss=r Also when adjusting peddle leave a bit of play. You can get into a over stroke condition easy.. Make sure you can push the slave forward after adjusting to confirm fluid can return to master then you will need to pump it up heaps…..not sure why but that’s how it is.    last thing the splined adapter is machined perfectly. If your input shaft is old like mine was I would put a bit of valve grinding paste on it and stroke it like a 15 year old. Just to give it a tad more clearance and to better match it to the spline.    reason is on a near flat shift I have had situation where the peddle returns a millisecond after you lift from the clutch. No slip or anything but I reckon this is due to tolerance on the spline being way tighter than stock clutch and binding for a sec. I think this will go away but also my spline was old. Box is old so I guess I should have checked better. It’s a super neat fit.    it feels light as and holds awesome without any noise
