yo..

please educate my friend.. im trying to convince him/her that a 1jz engine is a far better choice than a RB25 neo/RB26DETT..

for say a 180/silvia or a project car..

stock for stock or modified.. im done trying to convince him...

I was almost convinced this was the case too Marki but since i have started sniffing around motor sport circles I have heard of plenty of the 1 and 2j donks that have shit themselves. Apparently another phurphy is the story about the forged bottom end. According to one 2j owner I spoke to its nearly all bs. Forged pistons yes but thats about it. and lets face it, pistons dont make a bottom end.

Given the amount of parts and info on the rb I wouldnt hesitate to mod one again and if this one doesnt go the distance (which I am sure it will) I will find out why not and rectify it.

yep.

but u tend to see that the general JZ engine has far supirior oil dispurtion and coolant circulation.. make that bit more power standard block..thats standard to standard.

but i knw what ur talking about with just istons being forgies...

with the SR20.. u cna have a full forged engine but in the end u still got a weak alloy block and they dnt see more than 700ponies

It's hard to convince him because it's not just about 'the engine'. Reliability is important of course but you aren't taking into acount ease of installation, availability of parts etc. And don't just write of RB's like that either. Yeah sure the JZ is a well designed engine but 90% of RB engine failures are tune related. Too many tuners who do a half arsed job. It'll bring the strongest engine to it's knees.

At the end of the day, like Dan said, it's not the debate of which engine is strongest in stock form, it's pretty well documented that the JZ is probably trumps in that department. But the effort involved is rediculous when looking at the comparison of swapping either engine. The conversion is no longer unique, its been done a few times before and for the extra cost involved you could have a tougher RB.

ok

im diagnosing why im getting nothing much from the RB20..

its got a Z32 AFM with standard ecu..?

does that work.. from my understanding the Z32 has a different voltage correct..?

with it cranking over im not getting the injectors to open and close (electronically)?? using a test light and checked i off Inj #1 while cranking. i have fuel flow, ignition (diagnose by playing with the ignitor) enough to splutter but not keep on going..

cas seems good. so im shooting for fuel..???

anyone..

The other thing you could try is to remove the return line from the reg and turn on the ignition. If there is not enough pressure to bypass the reg, then you will never start it.

Then check spark. I can test your coil packs, PTU and injectors with an ignition tester I have but you should make sure you are getting power to everything first. Chuck a noid light on the injectors and see if they pulse. The Z32 AFM won't work on the standard ECU as it has a different resolution, but I'm not 100% on whether it will stop it from running completely. If you get stuck......I'll happily buy the car from you for $1
