That clip brings back memories of the wooden floored garage :P

Well?

Don't be silly, nothing's that slow.

There's a 4 lane highway, the fast lane on the right, the slow lane on the left....shane's rebuild is 2 miles left of that.

since when ahs HKS had a better name for engine components than Tomei :):O :O

ha ha sorry Tomei fan here

+1

HKS = shit TOMEI = awesome

Honestlly Andy im with you, my personal belief if that if I was to buy cams then id be buying Tomei.

Not that i know ones better than the other, cause i dont.

Its like panadol, if i got a headache i buy panadol nothing else. Cause i know it works and its what ive always used.

Nothing..... Yet, my plan was for 300rwkw. I thought id have to do cams to get there but once i got there i realised i didnt need them.

But I guess time will tell, with the price so low, its hard not to just do it... :)

prolly col lol

Wrong!

the turbo's not big enough...

Least his car will be running in a few weeks :)

WTF!!! Thats like finding out superman is gay Col. I always assumed you had nothing but the best in your build. So why the stupendous asking price when there are 33's for sale with heaps more quality mods for way less money. I am totally confused here.

Tell you what, At the end of the day i want you to sell mine for me. Using your parameters we should get about 75 kay for it of which i will gladly pay you a 25% commission.

ok ok so i should really save some money and get Tomei cams? what reason is it that HKS is shit?

By shit i take it you mean not as good as tomei?

Would be keen to know a valid reason for them to be "shit" (not saying they aren't)

Also stop the squabbling!!!!!!

i've heard that the hks & jun cams arent exactly what their specs say. i.e they are a bit higher/lower than their claimed specs. and the tomei's are pretty spot on with their specs.

there is also the other option of getting a set custom ground to ur specs. this way u'll have no doubt they will made to the exact specs. want more details send me a pm

Settle pettle...

Noel everyone needs to spend a few pennys to get to 300rwkw and make it all day everyday.

Just cause my wastegate was from ebay does nto mean that the rest is not good stuff.

Just the prep work on the block cost me $800, then the boring, acid dip and clean up was another $1000

(however this price did also cover the crank linishing)

Pistons were just over $1400 with rings, Bearings were about $600, but that was a full kit inc gugen pins and so forth.

If I remeber right the rods were about $400 second hand, then a further $300 for xray and peining.

Custom pipe work for the charged air side of the turbo was just over $1400 with HPC coating.

The turbo cost me just on $2000 with fittings (this was a bit of a rip off this should have been 1500 through slide, but I had 2g worth of autobarn vouchers to use)

So on and so on...

What makes you think I have not spent just as much money as you?

Infact I bought all of my gear when the aussie dollar was weak, so im sure if I bought it all again id save quite a bit of money. (Maby even thousands on todays exchange rate). As for the selling price for an R33, these days a S2 is worth about 16k clean.

Add the mods up for just a basic setup from stock and tell me 22k is not worth it!

yeah i guess you cant get machining from china Col and it sure adds up. In all honesty mate i think i have spent a hell of a lot less than most to do mine. I did some very diligent shopping and bought precious little across the counter at a store. I did buy a couple of lemons but on the whole i did very well.

As for what makes me think you havnt spent plenty, I never said you didnt but to date you have told me of your chinese manifold, copy gate, I also recall you telling me at the dinner one night that you didnt use forged slugs to boot so really the only high end item you have mentioned to date other than the unavoidable machining expenses is the garret turbo.

See, If you put up your mod list you could show what you have and what you dont.

Also in addition, I should mention back when I bought my S2, the common market value was 30k.

I didnt pay that as I imported it through SVI, but even selling it at 22k id be loosing about 40k once you take into account the money spent...

But I have no place for it anymore and dont drive it anymore, so what else am I suposed to do with it?

You dont think 22k is reasonable? Had quite a few enquires in the last week, two people inspected but I refused a test drive until the get a cover note for insurance.

Techniclly they are forged, they are however flat top pistons.

I thought I explained that, in short they dont have the usuall valve indentations, reason why is so I can use a 1mm head gasket and keep compression at a reasonable level.

So in short the pistons I have will cop just as much punishment as others on the market, just offer lower compression than the usuall forged items.

So I compensate with a smaler/thiner headgasket to make the difference. Make sense?

Why do it this way, well flattop pistons offer faster ignition, more efficient, ummm how do you say like more even ignition.

Hard to explain withoutusing my hands  But the GT500 cars run flattop pistons, gives more torque down round the 1000-2500rpm range.

Disadvantage, hard to find and costlly. I got mine through perfectrun they are Jun items, I bought mine when they made discontinued at $1400 AUD.

Which is a lot less than they usually sold for. I think they were just trying to get rid of the last couple of sets. I guess you spend about $1400 on pistons anyway.

But yeah, the pistons are not cast, they are forged in that sense. Just not the usuall design tops.

Side note, the manifold I got was for mok-up purposes. It was sent away and reconstructed and re-inforced before use. I also had it heat treated and crack tested.

I was going to go a 6boost manifold, but he had supply/demand issues at the time and I could not wait. Doing it the way I did it was costlly tho.
