They already are. Yet what they want and what they perceive they can get are totally out of whack.

Eg: client wants a male manager with experience managing a $1.2M fee base. They want to pay this person $120k. A number of our competitors have offered then the world and said that they will find this person. This person doesn't exist. Even at big 4 accounting firms, someone on $150k will only be looking after a $800k portfolio - tops! This is a major issue at the moment.

Imagine this issue when 22-36% of the most skilled and experienced of the total workforce in the western world retire over the next 10-15 years. Combine this with low to negative birth rates in many western nations and we are in for one hell of a ride.

There aren't enough of the little jerks. By 2050 there will be at best 1.3 people in the work force for every retired person in Australia. In 1970 it was closer to 10:1. Skill up now boys and gals, it's going to be a sellers market in a few years That's why my plan is to go straight into a part time masters degree as soon as I have a real job again.

I have to back up Tony on that one. For 1.2m worth of client based I would want to be paid a hell of a lot more than $120k or at the very least become a partner for managing that size base.

Dont fool yourself with that Andrew. The way I see it once you have secured a job you like keep it and then move from there. Masters degrees and other post grads education can wait as they mean jack crap if you don't apply it.

I don't have a single degree to my name, I have people who have degree's working for me and I make a fairly decent sum (6 figures). I have 17 year experience in what I do and can run rings around any book trained person I have ever met in my field.

Degrees are a nicety but not essential if you have proven experience and letters of recommendation from heavy hitters in the industry to prove you know what your on about, If the opportunity is presented to up skill at the company's expense (watch for the strings) jump on it. Sometimes learning how to be more personable and learning how to present complex things in layman's terms will get you a lot further in life than a fancy suit and a degree.

Double degrees bro, business and commerce majoring in leadship/management and finance. Have been out of the hot seat (uni) for a year now. I feel my brain is going to waste although I like the money
