Unless they've changed a lot in the last 18 months or so, both Link and Wolf (and Microtech etc) tend to be racing ECUs - they will get your car running, back lack some of the things that make a car nice to drive day-to-day. Things like cold start, idle control (when the aircon cuts in, in particular), variable cam timing control etc, and they generally have a lower mapping resolution too.

Thankyou Marc. These are the type of answers i have been trying to get for a month now.

lol no probs

I think the factory climate control system relies on the ECU somewhat too, and with a digital (ie non-mechanical) dash it's always worth checking if your new ECU will run it. The last thing you want is to be forced to run the factory ECU alongside your shiny new one, just so you can get the dash working.

So, At the end of the day all roads lead to Haltec. Pretty much what i thought.

Indeed.

Let me know when you've got the nawz controller hooked up, I can put you in touch with a guy that can get you two big bottles, and he can have them by tonight.

:):( :( :(

what a day... took car in at 8 this morning to get coilovers raised, offset bushes put in to fix steering problem and full wheel align, to be finsihed at 1pm.. went back at 1pm to find the car hasn't moved they hadn't done any work on it. Tell them just to raise the coilovers as i had to take the car to beenleigh station to clear my defect today only - was the only day since it was issued i could get off work (must have car for work) and i fly up to gladstone tomorrow morning, the deadline for taking the car to the cops will pass when i'm up there :(

They attempt to raise rear suspension only to find the adjusting nut is siezed and the locing one fell apart :(

So i'm up for new coilovers or lengthy repairs to the old ones. At least i can still drive the car :( I got the shop to do me a letter which i took to the cops to try get an extension of the defect inspection until after i get back from gladstone, after much resistance they gave me till the 23rd...i fly back home on the 19th but will be in the process of moving house to rocky/buderim (still haven't sorted that out either) :D:D:(

rofl. Spoke to an old pal in the game on monday. Grant from brisbane engine balancing. what he said made a lot of sense. set up a NOS system that fires up instantly then cuts out as boost comes on board. Fat power right across the board that way. :D:D

What a tossaround bloke. hope you get it sorted.

damn street racers :D

yeah :D like today was the only day i had to do repairs... they penalize me for working..my income tax pays their wages, damn the irony in that :D

I would classify myself as an honest decent citizen, and to be honest i was treated like crap by this system that makes little allowance for people in my position. (i gave them contact details of my employer who will confirm this has been the first proper opportunity i have had, plus the letter from the workshop and thats still not enough).

I just hope i can find the time to get it sorted when i get back, gotta decide which option to take, either:

-pull out coilovers, buy secondhand stock suspension and get that installed to clear defect while i get my ones repaired/rebuilt(no idea $$ wise but $1K plus at least?)

-pull out coilovers and replace with new ones (approx $2k?)

-pull out coilovers and have them repaired/rebuilt and suffer without car for few days (or more depends on how long it will take)

-leave suspension as is, and try getting a new turbo back exhaust custom made to hug the floor ,and hope that that would give me enough ground clearance.. $1-1.5K + sacrifce in power and flow of current zorst.

so in short = :(

ANyone who finds a buyer for my Lexus (in cars for sale forum) gets $500 cash.

how much Matt?

and link pls have a friend who is actually looking at buying an IS but he is one picky son of a bitch

Hmm might be interesting, I'd be keen to see it if/when it's set up.

I've long wondered about how they'd go with a Vortech-style blower on the side though - simple exhaust, no lag and can be set to make good boost from very low rpm :D

For your mate, $30k. It is regarded as the best looking IS in OZ. And is maintained to that high standard.

lol dude you hav another option....

depanding on how much you have to raise it... get your self a set of old rims and put high profile tyres on them this will raise the car.....

eg... 225/45/r17 was 11cm swaped rims and tyres 205/65/r15 ride height changed to 16cm, just do this to clear the defect then put the old rims back on.....

    • Hmm... From my experience you get about 0.25° camber change per mm of RUCA length change. So, to correct from -2.5 up to less than -1° (or, more than -1° if you look at the world as a mathematician does) then you'd be making 6-8mm of length change on the RUCA. From a stock length of 308mm, that's 2-2.5% difference in RUCA length. My RUCAs are currently very close to stock length - certainly only 2-3mm different from stock. I had to adjust my tension arms by 6mm to minimise the bump steer. That's 6mm out of 210, which is 2.8%. That's a 2.8% change on those, compared to a <1% change on the RUCAs. So the stock geometry already has worse bump steer than is possible - you can improve it even if you don't change the RUCA length. If you lengthen the RUCAs at all, then you will definitely be adding bump steer. Again, with my car, I recently had an unpleasant amount of bump steer, stemming from a number of things that happened one after another without me having an opportunity to correct for them. I only had to change the tension arm lengths by 1mm to minimise the resulting bump steer. (Granted, I also had to dial out a lot of extra toe-in in the rear, and excessive rear toe-in will make bump steer behaviour worse). Relatively tiny little adjustments having been made - the car is now completely different. Was horrifying how much it wanted to steer from the rear on any significant single wheel bump/dip. And it was even bad on expansion joints on long sweepers on freeway entry/exits, which are notionally hitting both rear wheels at the same time. My point is, the crappy Nissan multilink is quite sensitive to these things (unlike the very nice Toyota suspension!). And I think 99.75% of Skyline owners are blissfully ignorant of what they are driving around on. Sadly, it is a non-trivial exercise to set up to measure and correct bump steer. I am happy to show my rig, which involves nasty chunks of wood bolted to the hub, mirrors, lasers, graph paper targets and other horrors. Just in case anyone wants to see how it is done. I'll just have to set it up to take the photos.
    • What do you have in that bad boy ? Ill go with the 725cc since I'll be going with Nistune ( would definitely like more engine protection but Haltech is too far out of reach at the moment... plus, Ill probably have a pretty safe tune as its a daily, not gonna be chasing peak power 24/7 ahahah ). Are Xspurt a safe choice?  Pete's great. He didnt mention anything about traction arm length so I reckon it may be good. When I get some new wheels/tire later down the road I'll ask him about it and get his opinion on em. I heard from Gary that you've got the bilsteins too, are you running the sway bars too? and what other suspension goodies do you have installed or would recommend?
