Hey all,

Got a sound as if i am reversing, when going forwards.. its louder in 1st and 2nd but still noticable in other gears... has only recently started to happen... wondering if anyone has had this before? Is it a busted bearing or something?

Also, when in neutral with clutch engaged (foot off the clutch) i can hear a rattle coming from the gearbox..

Your help is appreciated.... as i am so pov at the moment I'm hoping i don't have to fork out $$ on a gearbox repair or replacement!

Cheers

:D

if you put your foot ont he clutch does the rattle go away? If so its most probably the main bearing ont he input shaft, not good, but it will probably go for ages with it like that if you dont mind the noise.

Yeah it does.. but what about the whining sound? Thats got me puzzled!!

my car has had this problem for the past 2 years or so (previous owner just put up with it)

its not a big deal.. the gearbox isnt gonna go bang anytime soon

just screwed bearings... if you can put up with the annoying noise, then it will go for ages.... if not... pay big bucks to get it fixed

Its not expensive man. When rattling at idle is just the thrust bearing which is on a rod in the bell housing of your gearbox. When you get a clutch changed ask them to change that too. I did but since then its back lol. Ah well!
