nice job tangles. looks good but it doesnt look that enclosed especially the other side not where the snorkel is but the other side cant water get in through there cause its not blocked off???

cheers Latin; going to chop up a piece of 25cm H x 100cm L heatinsulated foam, and form that around all areas of the cai to help block (however slightly) hot enginebay air - not concerned at all about water, cant see how much more than a droplet here or there can get in thru the front; never even considered that factor until you mentioned it lol

she'll be right :)

Dont mean to hijack this thread - but since its on the topic of pod filters I thought I'd post a question here.

Went to BT-revolution, motorware and re customs - all said that the type of Apex-i that I would be looking at woudl be the one that comes with the adapter etc. No one has the 022 Apex-i Pod that bolts straight on to the R33 series 2 skyline.

I know people have said on here, that we can just buy the pod and fit it in (unless i read it wrong), but it seems that the only ones that I can get my hands on are the ones with the adapters (so im looking at around $230 at the min).

Anyone want to clarify if this is right?

Buy it from eBay, install it yourself, and save yourself $$$

Make sure it is 500-A022

I was going to post this if nobody else had, glad to see it appeared on page 1.

I'm never buying an HKS filter based on that, talk about woeful. I'm wondering how Unifilter compares as they make some pretty impressive filtration claims on their website (rather than going for peak power - that's easy just don't run a filter!).

Apexi's "lifetime use" basically means take it off every now and then and tap the dirt off it. Eventually you will want to replace it though, probably every couple of years when it starts looking ratty.

I'll be sticking with the standard airbox in my car.. probably standard paper filter too they aren't restrictive when they're clean so I'll just change it regularly!!

Apexi makes panel filters too...

Wrong, the brand often determines the type. In the case of K&N and Finer they are oiled and therefore illegal in every state I have checked the allowances for replacement filters.

Testing of flow and cleaning ability points to the Apexi as the best available so ditch your pods, use the stock airbox with Apexi panel and some breathing mods and (for Victorians and others limited to no other mods when a larger IC is installed) and get a decent front mount and stay legal.

well realistically when are people buying things with legality in mind, nearly all modified skylines are defectable, unless your running ridiculous rpm and power, i doubt you are going to see much actual power at the wheels difference between the pod brands anyway

but if you want to waste the money, then go for it, tis only my input :)

I am certain many don't want the hassle of being defected. I don't see a need to change for a number of reasons: I'm an Engineer and expect to be conducting vehicle modification inspections after I move to Brisbane so it helps to stay clean, keeping the standard box is an easy way to keep the heat off and protect your engine and turbo as it is easily modified to flow more air and look factory, not all filters are equal and some like HKS are just junk. Wanna buy some??

To what are you referring as wasting money? Pods, it depends on your ultimate power goals so they are probably the most available solution for tose people. If you only want about 270rwkw then a panel will handle it.

I have a k&n panel filter at the moment.

I want to keep it but I have just recently got a fmic installed and I want to figure out a way to keep using the stock box.

Because since I installed the fmic, the stock box intake pipe doesn't fit anymore.

Last thing I want to do is to buy a pod. Dont want to be defected.

Anyone can help?

    • Back in January, I noticed my car felt noticeably weak. I had the injectors cleaned, which seemed to solve the problem -- until now. Recently, the car suddenly lost power again while driving. Suspecting the injectors, I brought it to the mechanic. He recommended replacing them entirely, saying the current ones were getting unreliable and fiddly to work with. I could not find a direct replacement for my current injectors. The closest match I found were 440cc injectors. This led me to look into the possibility of upgrading -- and of course, that would mean remapping the ECU. From my research I found: The OEM Part numbers are 16600-72L20 and 16600-72L21 Both the RB20DE and RB20DET use the same 270cc injectors. There are much better options out there over the old OEM injectors. Nistune could be a viable tuning option. While the RB20DE isn’t explicitly listed on their site, the ECU is essentially the same as the GTS-T version - just with a different map. The ECU code on mine is listed as supported. One concern is finding a tuner who works with Nistune. Aftermarket ECU like Haltech and Link, but this would be the most expensive choice (and possibly overkill for a mostly stock RB20DE) I admit that I am very new to the tuning scene and would appreciate any insight or recommendations regarding this.   These are some SAU links where I got some of my information from for reference: https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/380324-rb20de-injectors/ https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/477396-factory-270cc-injectors/
    • The inspectors are not forensic by any means but if you forge your documents and/or badgings on vehicle parts and are found out, the consequences are just far bigger than if you just run illegal parts. And their job quite literally is to cross reference what parts you got installed and what your papers say you got. Something as silly as your suspension being 1mm too low will fail you. Nonetheless I asked if someone knew the damn pipe and I certainly did not ask for smartassery or underhanded comments, no idea why you need to be told this. Great way to waste both our time.
    • As useful as you explaining what forgery is... But then again, I wasn't aware your inspectors were also forensic experts and inspect nameplates on each component to confirm everything is original. They must inspect roughly 3 cars a year at that rate. You're right though, my comment doesn't help you in anyway, so I'll go talk to my wall now. Cheers.
    • Say that to the guy that is going to fail your inspection or tow your car for illegal exhaust modifications. If you have anything else useful to say, please go tell your wall.
