Right Way Changing Coolant?

Hey all,

Im gonna change my coolant in my car but this will be the first time ive changed it in a skyline. Im gonna replace the thermostat as well.

This is the method ive used with all my other previous cars and some extra additions that ive read on previous threads, such as the bleeder plug near the fuel pressure regulator. i was wondering if anyone thinks otherwise is best.

1. take the theromstat housing out and replace thermostat, then re-gasket back in place.

2. turn ignition on and set heater to full.

3. unplug bottom radiator hose and stick garden hose inside.

4. unplug the bleeder bolt.

5. turn hose on. wait till water flows out clear from bleeder bolt hole and from radiator end hole.

6. drain some water out to top up with coolant.

7. run engine. keep topping up with coolant while radiator is flowing.

If anyone wants to cut and paste the 6 instructions to rearrange, add or delete, be my guest!

One other note, the brand thermostat ive got is a 'Stant'. Thermostat model ST6-170. Has anyone used this brand before?

i used a nissan thermostat replacement, and used a silicon style selant for use in cars. comes in a little bottle with a brush.

leave that to dry recommended time before starting anything with coolant etc.

1. drain radiator and fluch out with hose from top and bottom hoses.

2. take the theromstat housing out and replace thermostat, then re-gasket back in place.

3. replace thermo housing, and all hoses

4. think the system is 10L for skylines, so work out how much coolant you will need as per mix instructions on bottle. add that much coolant to radiator.

5. top up with water til its full

6. turn ignition on and set heater to full.

7. start car and let it run to heat up. topping up radiator as it drops.

8. once system is near to temp and doesn't seem to be needing anymore water, put radiator cap on

9. unplug the bleeder bolt, without removing it, til the bubbles stop coming out and only water is leaving the thread. do it up and away you go.

im not sure if its the same, on a 26, however i used a VL thermo gasket on mine, as i cnbf using silcoon hate walking into repco and asking for vl parts tho

30/25/26 all use the same thermostat..

yeah, autobarn told me that the thermostats were the same with the RB30,25 and 26. Thanks for your help fellas!

faaark!!! i didnt know the thermostat was gonna be hard to take out! you think you would need rubber hands to get in there without taking the intake manifold off!

Where abouts is the bleed bolt on the RB25 engines?
