R32 Gtr Questions

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Im about to buy a R32 GTR, and am not sure about what type of turbo's it has.

The owner believes that they are N1's that were put in by the owner before him.

I checked the turbo housings and they had HKS written on them, i was under the impression that the N1's were made by Garrett. Can anyone shed more light on this?

Also, should an RB26DETT drop in revs when the oil cap is off, this didn't occur on the car i am considering to buy, should i be worried?

Thanks

I think you will find that HKS are esentially the same as Garrett, i.e. they use the same components, they just have their own slightly different sizings, i have HKS turbo's on mine, but they are GT2530s, there should be an ID plate on them in the middle of the turbo (between the compressor and exhaust housing) that should tell you what they are...o and if you hear them spinning when u turn the car off for a little while then they are ball bearing :O

If they've got HKS on them they're obviously not N1's. Probably something like the GT-SS if they've got similar response the N1s.

I can't see why the revs would change with the oil cap on or off

HKS turbos are made by garrett as well, if they ahve HKS on them they are HKS not N1.

HKS GTSS are almost as responsive as stockers, 2530's are much bigger.

If it has a oil catch can and its vented it wont make any difference to the revs when you take the oil cap off.

If it doen't it should.

I think a compression test would be a more accurate and reliable measure.

Will definately do a compression test before I purchase the car.

Cool, thanks for that.

It doesn't have an oil catch can. :

Does the amount of rpm at idle effect the ability of the car to drop revs when the oil caps off? because this car was idling at 1250rpm.
