Sound.

You buy a cheapie exhaust and it's bloody loud. You get pulled over for it and have to deal with all the problems that come with a defect/noise/emissions notice.

You buy a more expensive JDM made exhaust (eg the Fujitsubo Legalis) that sounds nearly as quiet as stock. You don't attract unwanted attention with the exhaust noise and it may in the end possibly save your car from being pulled over and defected.

Sorry, but no.

Are Japanese manufactured exhaust systems designed to comply with ADR's and DB/EPA requirements? No.

Sure, some Jap systems ie the Fujitsubo and Trust PE II are quieter than others, but virtually ANY off the shelf 3 inch exhaust system will increase your exhaust DB to a level that exceeds the EPA limit.

Depends if you wanna spend the dough on the brand name aye, Sure I'd get a Fujitsubo/HKS/whatever brand name exhaust, but I don't have the finances to do so.

I spent $450 on a noname 3inch catback & hot dog resonator from Midas at Penrith in NSW. They mandrel bent the piping & painted the piping & muffler in matt black, I chose an oval exhaust tip as it suited the cut-out section in my rearbar.

It does it's job, sounds aggressive without being noticeably loud that the cops pull me over & I'm happy with it.

All true but I'm guessing that although it will exceed the sound over the legal limit, it will do so less than a loud tincan style exhaust so the chances that you get pulled over will be less (less noticeable sound output)?

Also, are there separate dB limits for idle and WOT?

Think there is just the one limit. ie. 90 dB @ 4.5krpm? Correct me if im wrong

its funny how people only buy exhaust's to make it loud, i have a 3.5" titanium catback exhaust with a 4" cannon and its just below the legal DB limit. This way i wont have to deal with EPA, i get enough shit as it is from coppers here in Melbz anyway
