I have sorta done that with the R32GTST;

6 point roll cage

OMP drivers seat, std passengers seat, no rear seats

Sabelt 6 point harness

Bilstein shocks with coil over kits and Eibach springs

Whiteline adj stabiliser bars & alignment bushes

No HICAS

Nismo 1.5 way LSD

OS Giken twin plate clutch

RB25DET gearbox

Apexi titanium 4” exhaust

RB31DET with GCG version T04Z (~450 rwkw)

Oil cooler, 8.5 litre High Energy winged sump, remote filter etc etc

Power FC with Datalogit + Tech Edge A/F ratio logging

GTR alloy bonnet (all the fibreglass & carbon fibre ones I tried were heavier)

GTR front & rear bumpers and side skirts

17 X 8 wheels with 245/45/17’s Yokohama A032R’s

Brakes are standard R32GTST M 4 spot front callipers, with spacers on the front for 324 mm DBA slotted rotors.

Rear uses the standard R32GTST M 2 spot callipers with standard sized DBA slotted rotors.

Earls braided lines and Hawk pads all round

No aircon, but it sill has a heater for defogging

Ready to race (no driver) it weighs 1215 kgs

Other than the turbo restrictor, it is 100% Improved Production legal.

Basically I could swap almost all of that into an R32GTR, but I am not sure the180 kgs weight penalty would be offset by the 4wd in terms of lap times. The GTR would probably be faster over 20 laps, the rear tyres on the GTST cop a hiding. But over 1 lap, I am not so sure.

PS, the Silvia with the RB in it is no lighter and has to put up with the crappy MacPherson strut front end.

I did the corner weights on a stripped out S13 drifter with SR20 a few weeks back. Weighed 1055 kgs, no driver with 1/2 tank of fuel. I know the RB30, RB25 box, GTR rear end etc easily weighs 120 kgs more than the S13 equivalents. So there won't be much in it I reckon.

Why do you run the passenger seat? Just a restriction for the class you run in or is there some other reason?

Great to see the setup though.. While the engine is obviously quite a monster, the rest seems achieveable even with a moderate budget by the more amateur racer.

Everybody just seems to go straight for the GTR by default..

Other than the turbo restrictor, it is 100% Improved Production legal.

actually, I don't recall any freedoms in the IPRA regs for steering or rear suspension components that allows modifications to or removal of rear steering components.

not entirely convinced about the alloy GT-R bonnet either, but I'd have to check the regs on that. from memory, any component that is not 'free' must be of the standard material. I don't remember any rules specifically about bonnets (or other panels), so they cannot be modified/replaced by anything other than a standard replacement. You might be able to argue its standard for the model, ie by arguing the GTST and GTR are both the same model. that might be a stretch - but it depends on the wording of the IPRA definition of 'model'.

There are models of R32 coupe that don't come with HICAS standard

There were 2 releases of R32GTST M with GTR alloy bonnets and front bumpers

Being a Late Model, front and rear bumpers and side skirts changes are legal

All models of R32/33/34 have been requested to be approved for IP racing, same as S13 was recently.

Since they are/were on the DOTARS list and comply with FIA Touring Car requirements there is no issue

I do quite a few drive days and have to take passengers/customers

Plus it needs a passengers seat for Sports Compact

Doesn't need one for IP racing of course

But does for Imported Cars classes in most supersprints and lap dashes

Doesn't really matter that there were some R32's without HICAS, unless the model your car is log-booked as didn't have it, you do not have the freedom to remove or modify it. If you log booked the car as a 'GTST M' you might get away with the alloy bonnet, but you would have to provide documentary proof that it was standard if challenged by a scrutineer. I didn't question the bumper fascias or sideskirts.

DOTARS list has nothing to de with eligibility for IPRA. To be eligible, the model must be either:

1) Group A homologated, or

2) have sold at least 200 units through a manufacturer's dealer network in Australia, or

3) be specifically recognised by CAMS for IPRA. The only models on that recognised list PRA are the Mirage Cyborg and Silvia S13.

BUT, I've had a look at an old 2004 CAMS manual at their definition of "model". It says:

"Model refers to a member of the same family of vehicle as produced by the manufacturer."

I think an R32 GTST is of the same family of vehicle as the R32 GTR, which is eligible (Group A homologated). So that shouldn't be a problem AFAIC. Would be worth a call to the 3J technical officer before you take that as gospel though. If they have put in a request to CAMS for them to be recognised, they obviously have a different perspective on that...

The car is log booked as an Nissan Skyline R32 Coupe 1990 model

I always carry the necessary paperwork with me, the car has been scrutineered for eligibility and 20 or so times at meetings

Add that to the list of compliance plate holders as additional proof of eligibility.

not sure what you are getting at there. the number of vehicles imported under DOTARS and compliance plate holders has nothing to do with vehicle eligibility for IPRA. Simply complying with dimension requirements of a touring car also does not make it eligible - it must fulfill one of those 2 categories in my previous post as well.

they release a bulletin each time its updated, obviously enough. It has been updated 3 times, but one of them was just because they couldn't spell Silvia :lol

look forward to seeing that bulletin release - as you say, it will remove any doubt. And it will make my plans for my old HR30 coupe's engine choice legal for IPRA! :dry:

I wonder what they think "member of the same family of vehicle" means if a R32 GTST is not a a member of the same family of vehicle as a R32 GTR :D surely R32 Skyline is the family of vehicle, and the various models (GTST, GTR, GTS4 etc) of R32 Skyline are members of that family? Its not like anyone's trying to say an R34 Skyline is the same family of vehicle as an R32.

oh well - wait for the bulletin. Would be good to see some other popular makes/model of grey imports on that list for IPRA too.

rb30 bottom end with a t04z, just built one for a friend it reaches full boost by 3100rpm and revs all the way to 7600 with standard cams and makes a tidy 370kw atw on only 18psi yet is very tackable and has huge amounts of low down torque. I would run a dry sump setup also and try to get 285+ size tires under the thing. Along with the other stuff people have mentioned in terms of weight and cage etc etc. That would make a killer track car!!
