Hey just curious if anyone has any idea on how the value of R34 GTTs will hold up over time (Perhaps based on the price trends of R33s) Nowdays a clean 1998 turbo 2 door example is worth what? $25,000? It seems everyone is having trouble selling them, so they're dropping in value fairly quick i assume. Does anyone have any idea what fairly commonly modified R34 (say exhaust, pfc, intercooler, boost controller etc) would be worth in 3-4 years? I'm just trying to gauge how much I should be offering for one nowdays, and how much I can expect to lose through depreciation. I swear just 6 months ago they were selling for $35,000+

Just an example.

Bink1970's white R34 with a decent amount of mods I think sold for around $26,000-28,000

well think of it this way, atm r34's are only expensive because of the lesser amount in the country, just wait until they do what they did with the r33 and import too many of them, value will drop alot ...

its like any car tho, u dont buy it to get agood resale value, dont worry about what your car will be worth in a few years, buy it, enjoy it ... sell it

they weren't 10g's more 6 months ago though:P but around 3 years ago they were around the 30 to 35g mark i think.

basically cars depreciate a lot, if ur concerned about resale values..mercedes and stuff is where its at. having said that, theyre always gonna be more than r33's etc. and it'll seem to settle like s15's have just 5k over s14s, etc.

Now days its harder to sell any turbocharged cars not just the GTT due how much fuels cost now days. One thing for sure fuel prices are just going to keep rising thats why people buy economical cars. If you want a R34 get it mate dont worry about how much you're going to sell it for in the future. Trust me you wouldnt be dissappointed if you get one.

At the current rate the AUS government is reducing import tariffs from 10% to 5% in 2010 (i think). I'm assuming the import tariffs apply to used vehicles, so i guess your cars gonna lose 5% value as soon as 2010 ticks over.

I guess one of the importers could verify that... i just did an essay on the automotive industry but i dunno if the tariffs apply to both new cars and used imports....

I think you guys are forgetting the fact that the R34s were not in production for a very long time and they were the last of the Skyline family...

These two facts alone should add retention value to the car.

Yeah, I guess I am just getting cold feet about spending that sort of money on something I know is gonna depreciate. I'm sure it'll be a fun car to drive, and it's what I really have my heart set on so I should probably just get over it and buy one heh.

18-20k in 4 years time sounds realistic.

But 3 years ago they were going for at least 40k+, I remember because I was in the market for an R34 back then.

Nowadays you can get them for as low as 25k and the most people are willing to pay is around 32-33k.

The good thing about them is that they were produced in less volume than r33s so will hold their value well....and they aren't cheap enough in Japan for importers to "mass market" yet.

it will never be mass marketed, theres simply not enough of them to do so. plus world demand for 2nd hand R34 is increasing as we speak.

What I want to know is, why are S13's with SR20's selling for no less than $15,000 and an R32 skyline in good nick with a superior design can be had for around $8-10,000?

As far as I can see, It's because it's getting much harder to find a good example of an S13 but does that mean that as more and more skylines become drift hacks that a well kept example will shoot up as well?

Personally, I think not!

I dont see how the R34 can be called the last of the skyline family considering the G35 Skyline

The R34 GTT will drop in value yes, but dont worry about te re-sale value of the car, buy it enjoy it.

But on the other hand, what you think the prices for s2 33s wil be in 1-3 years time.. Considering that the car is kept in excellent condition with minor mods here and there??

My thoughts would be 15-17k at max most likely which is reasonable considering atm we are paying about 18k. But i wouldnt be expecting to make any money back on mods, unless you strip it back to stock.

As far as 34s go, im sure there prices will drop a little, to about 20k mark in 2 years time for a gd gtt example.

But as ppl are saying, buy the car and enjoy it.

But just the other day i was speaking to some dude, who didnt know much about skylines, and was another car fan. He made a point saying that even though i dont know much about skylines, he is willing to pay about 20-21k for a clean r33 s2 with some mods etc etc.

So there are ppl out there who are willing to pay extra..

So when it comes time to sell, i guess you gotta be patient and just sit for a while. Guess its with any car!!

How come there isn't as many R34 as 33? R33 were from 1993-1997 and R34 from 1998-2001 right? So 4 and 3 years of production, shouldn't be that big a difference in the amount made?

r33- mid 1993 to mid 1998

r34- August 1998 to mid 2001

Not many ppl brought R34s compared to R33s.

Only clueless ppl would pay 21grand for a S2 33. the smart ones search and wait.

    • You might want to update the thread title.  V37 ≠ V36.  And it probably isn't a G37 unless it is 2012+ Ininiti or LHD.
    • Just a basic run down of the relevant bolt-ons. All e85 First graph 406.9whp is HKS GT-RS, HPI manifold, 3" bell mouth dump / 3" straight through fake cat / 3" all the way to the rear and no resonators, nismo 740cc, walbro 460, oem RB26 itb's, power fc, eboost2, Greddy Spec M fmic, poncams, Turbosmart actuator, splitfires, ARD 150amp alternator. Blue line is same as above but Blitz Dual SBC (before i upgraded to eboost2) and 100cell "high flow" cat. Red line is after installing eboost2 and the fake 3" cat (it's just a 3" pipe with a cat shell welded onto it). Huge gains in response, as can be seen. Black dots are a mates sr20 with almost identical setup but uses a garrett 2871 instead oh HKS. Next grapghn 466.6whp is same as above, but HKS 2835 Pro S with the larger .87ar turbine housing, the special HKS Pro S dump pipe into a HPI split dual 2.5" front pipe and the rest stayed as is. Red line is after I welded the actuator brackets. (It was originally bolted together and was moving a couple millimetres under load). Green line is obviously before I welded the bracket, no other changes. 100whp gain at 3750rpm, massive gain for such a simple fix. Third graph is my current setup, huge changes. 469.7whp R31house twin scroll manifold, twin TiAl 38mm gates, Forced Performance (USA) HTA3076 with 1.01ar twin scroll rear housing, Link Fury+ and loom by 12volt, PRP trigger kit and r35 coil kit with r35 splitfire coils, HKS step 1 vct staggered cams, new oem lifters and performance springs, 49mm itb's w/port matched Nismo plenum, twin walbro 460 surge tank setup + 1650cc injectors, HKS Type R S13 600x300x103mm fmic, individual egt's, 4" turbo back with no resonators or cat and AES true straight through muffler + 4" butterfly off the dump pipe lower 90° bend. It's a preliminary tune with no boost control with using 20psi gate springs and 4" butterfly closed. Once body loom and PDM is compete, will go for 30psi tune.
    • Power light apparently functions as a transmission error light, you can try the power sequence to read any codes from the transmission control unit.
