Hey everyone,

I was in hospital recently and my GF got me a few car mags to read the time away and i stumbled onto this short shifter offered by Just Jap - Just Jap link

(its at the bottom of the page)

My first impression was "Bloody heck thats cheap, I’m so gettin one!", but after reading around on SAU, i found a few ppl saying that these 'cheapo' short shifters just give you a headache.

I don't have heaps of money to spend so thats why this shifter really grabbed my attention.

(PS: i have an R32 GTS with an RB20DE engine)

What are your opinions?

Has anyone bought one of these guys?

If so what do ya think?

Thanks,

Regards Sean'O :(

Probably best to e-mail the guys at just jap! always helpful!

The common thing that most complain about is the noise and rough feel as the standard stick is quite nifty!

It has the shifter end out of the gearbox then between the gearbox part and the handle part it is pack with a high density rubber which stops gearbox niose and harsh feel

Not explained very well :PBJ:

gear knob

gear stick

rubber noise and vibration insulator

gear stick

gearbox

So check if it has this or you'll get a constant whinning

if you want to shorten your throw slightly, or just make it look shorter just go to an engineering shop and get them cut down your stock stick. it only shortes your throw slightly as you are making a smaller arc.

and yes i know how proper short shifters work.

before anyone starts saying that shortening your stick doesn't shorten your throw, draw a small circle and a bigger circle around it. make sure the smaller one is right in the center. now draw an X through the circles, with both lines going through the dead centre of the circles. now measure the distance between 2 of the lines on both circles. the smaller circle will have a smaller distance. smaller disctance = shorter throw.

Hey,

Thats not a bad idea, i didn;t even think about that lol.

But the only downfall is that i won't have the stock shifter anymore when i eventually sell the car :P, ohh well food for thought.

Gday ellie,

I havent got around to sending the e-mail off yet, cauz Uni is really kicking my a** with late assignments, tests etc, but i will pass on an e-mail right now so i don't forget again lol,

I will post up their reply as soon as they get back to me, it will be hard to pass up if its a nice unit :D

Cheers guys

Sean'O

whats the point of even cutting it down, simply grab the shifter lower down and u'll get the exact same effect, althought it wont look like a short shifter. that is assuming u wanna grab actual gearstick itself, rather than the shift knob. do u prefer to grab shaft or knob :P
