Piston Rings

just a question for those who have done internals....

for piston rings, is it better to have plain steel rings or crome moly plated ones?

i've been told that the plated ones wear out with and need a replacing if punnished (which i doubt i will do as i've never even been on the track). is that true???

iv'e also heard that the plated ones have been fit onto many drag and track cars without any problems.

any advise would be appreciated as the pistons are the final part i need for my rebuild and im dying to drive my car again after 3 months

moly rings are coated. funnily enough, ALL nissan factory rings come factory coated. hmm......

AND most forged pistons have rings that are coated in the kits as well. most auto resellers wll state that "oh wow these rings are moly rings"..... MOST rings these days are moly

so does that mean that since most rings available these days are coated they are somewhat superior to the plain steel rings?

cromo is stronger than steel. that is why they make all the freestyle and dirt jump bmx bikes out of it. if it is a high enough grade than it will be extremely strong. there are bmx forks that come with a lifetime waranty that if you break or bend them you get a new set for free, and they are nearly as light as alloy forks, but alot more expensive. and the handlebars made out of the same stuff (with same warranty) can only be cut with an angle grinder as it bluntens pipe cutters and hacksaw blades (even good ones). so if you could get them coated in that grade cromo then they'd handle a fair bit of punishment.
