Hi all

Time to spoil the missus so looking for a turbo upgrade.

Must be in very good condition NO shaft play, shot seals, cracked housings etc. low kM

A rebuilt one like GCG 450hp+ with steel wheels etc would be sweet as it would mount straight up.

Would consider other options too

I’m in VIC so this state would be preferred, unless people want to have the turbo's checked and provide me with report :woot:

I’d like to know:

KM it has been run?

What car?

What max boost run?

How the turbo was acquired (new, second hand, had rebuilt)?

Please be as genuine as possible. This also has to transport my kids and wife so sorry for being pedantic :(

thanks

Ian

I am selling a 500hp GT30 with T3 flange, with Skyline GTS housing from GCG Turbochargers. I bought it through horsepowerinabox. I bought it new last year for $1950. Sell $1200 firm. The car has been off the road for most of the year :D. It would not have more than 2,000kms on it. The turbo is basically new. It will laugh at any test. Max boost 13psi and not at that level for very long at all.

Hi Ian,

I have a rb25 hi-flow with a VG30 upgrade. Mine is up for sale ($1100), but i would not sell it to you as these turbos are not that responsive and when approaching boost, comes on hard [ie: A lot of fun, NOT good for a family car]. Experienced track drivers have looped/spun my car due to it's boosting characteristics. I am telling you this to state that any/all hi-flows are not the best option, that is why i am replacing mine with a HKS GT-RS. Refer to attached pic. Pete has the same turbo, in his R34 GTT, with the best tunning, but still acts in a similar manner.

Silva33 has a HKS 2535 that would be best suited for your needs, he also lives in Melbourne and has just posted it for sale @ $1500 (with HKS Actuator) or $1300 (with std rb25 Actuator). This is a great turbo, as the power is progressive, thus being safer. The price is honestly awesome too, if he sold this 1 month earlier i would have saved myself $1400 :D.

HI Al

thanks for the advise... its interesting that you say that any/all high flows are not the best option..

in the stagea section everyone is turning to the GCG highflow/rebuild option..

also i have had a chat to same people this afternoon who advised that the 2535 would run out of puff... apparently they had a r32 with one which didnt produce as much kW output as expected even after tuning etc and advised that a t3/t4 option would be better...

would you know what rpm the 2535 would hit boost??

the stock turbo on the stagea (1650kg dry) comes in at 2400-2500 this is a little low for my liking as with a full load (family) on the freeway it hits boost approx 100km....

this is good that i am getting others opinions as all i have heard is GCG this and GCG that....

thoughts??

thanks

Ian

Does you Stagea have the Neo6 engine?

If so your turbo, with a GCG hi-flow upgrade, would be exactly like Pete's, as his was done by GCG.

If you have a S1, then a GCG hi-flow will have a smaller exhaust housing, like mine was b4 i upgraded it to a VG30 ext housing (which is the same size as a R34 GTT housing).

With more weight and four wheel traction, the turbo would probably come on a little earlier, due to extra load. Once boost hits, it will not kick out as a Gts-t does, so it may not be as bad.

PM Dave (Silva33) for more info about the GT2535, i beleive he made a very strong 240rwkw. Unfortunately i didn't get a chance to drive his car b4 the accident, but he has driven mine. His comments about my set-up where repeated several times by other ppl, "The power is like a light switch; nothing till 4k rpm then instant 250rwkw". My combo, with Tomei poncams and head porting made 274rwkw@17psi, but we lowered the boost to protect the std bottom end. Considering the GT2535 made about 240ish on a stock engine, i beleive it has the same potential to make as much power as my hi-flow, while maintaining GREAT response.

These are just my thought. My experience with hi-flows have left me far from impressed, even though i am grinning from ear to ear when i eventually hit boost :D. Mind you, my tune left alot to be desired :D

hi

sorry for the late reply..

thanks Al good advise..

so compared to the 2535 and your vg30 upgrade what are the characteristics? i.e boost at ... , HP rating... etc

i have also seen the slides turbo for under $1000..

now i know that these have bush bearings although the GCG rebuild had ceramic hi-speed bearings and load ball bearing?

now this is not full ball job...

wat would be the difference with the rebuild and a new turbo with bush?

anyone enlighten me on how to maintain bush bearing turbo's ??

i know that ball is better by far although i will most likely not max a bush turbo so the weakness factor is not there? correct me if im wrong??

thanks

Ian

Can't answer your other questions, sorry :)

You have my graph, ask Dave (silva33) to post up his graph and compare the differance.

Also Paul (paulr33) has accumulated a comparison of each turbo and plotted all the results (using people's own graphs) on the one chart. This will give you a good "indication" about the characteristics of the differant turbos, on a RB25.
