Mitsubishi Eclipse

I was watching that vid of the spoiler flying off the eclipse and it got me wondering. Why dont i ever see any eclipses? Prehaps i have seen one since i have lived in brisbane (10years)

1995+ Eclipses were made only in LHD configuration.

Not sure about the model before though.

They didnt have the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7.

The DSM's share the same engine as the vr4 and the evo 2

Drivetrain is fairly similar as well

I think the better parallel is that we have FTO's whereas they got eclipses. FTO's weren't made in LHD and eclipses weren't made in RHD. Although transforming the first series eclipse to RHD isn't supposed to be hard as they're a pretty modular cockpit and can use a lot of VR4 parts.

The next model of eclipse sees the FTO merged with the eclipse line. So from now on they'll be the same family of car available in both RHD and LHD.

as far as i know, eclipses are only available in the US, heaps there. my uncle has one. I'd much rather a FTO than an eclipse. Mitsubishi Australia was thinking of bringing them in a while back, but seems rather unlikely now. they showed one off at a car show somewhere. it was on a Wheels magazine i think. You could go live in the states for a while, buy an eclipse and bring one back to Australia as a private import?

they look about as interesting as an excel and most of them are fwd

There's an eclipse running about in my area, it's purple & I think has a carbon hood.

Anyone know the rough specs on them? same or similar to the fto?

As others have said, only available in left hand drive. They are available for import in the UK. I went to the docks one day with a mate over there and saw some waiting to be collected and was surprised at how big they were. They were more GTO width. I have only seen the one in the F&F and imagined it to be FTO size but it was more GTO size.

Arnt they AWD? And turbo'd? Similar to GTO but single turbo I think.

Older model Eclipse Talons (top of the line) are 4WD with a turbo 4.

But then the bright sparks at Mitsubishi in America decided that the market didn't want that, so they replaced the range-topper with a FWD V6. (the one Tyrese drives in 2F2F).

Why are Americians soo stupid. Why the hell would they want to go an ruin and awesome car like that. The green on from the first F&F movie was pretty sweet.

i'd still take an FTO over an eclipse (awd or fwd)... FTO's are pretty sweet cars once you put a MIVEC controller and do some work on the engine and its respiration.

The AWD on older eclipses were more like the ones we got on Legnum VR4's and Galant VR4's... ie sloppy and useless.
