This might not be new. I saw a thread somewhere .

Today I went to get another key cut.The key guy said tyhe key would only open the dors. If it was put in the ignition the the security system in the car would prevent start up.

There was a thread somewhere about Nismo Keys but I cant find it.

Where do I go from here?

HELP>

Ionlyhave one key and the numbers have been ground off.

I've had a generic key cut, and it works fine. In fact, I don't use my Stagea remote key because it doesn't work with my alarm, so there's no point in carrying around a key with the remote fob as my alarm triggers my central locking, as I'm sure yours would do if you have one fitted.

When I bought the car, I got the Stagea key w/remote fob and a standard Nissan key, and I then got an extra spare key cut to leave at home for emergency emergencies (i.e. in the unlikely event that TWO keys go missing).

Yeah I got several cut as well, they are a patrol key.

That and when I got my alarm installed the remote lock/unlock which is on the standard nissan key doesnt work.

Other than that no they do not have transponders in them.

I'm guessing the stagea's are like the R33 SII GTS-T.. although some have central locking from factory - NONE - repeat NONE have a chip in the key..

If you goto a decent lock smith (not just a small booth at the local shopping centre) - they should have a device that they can put the key into and it will tell them if it is chipped or not..

Had alot of trouble convincing a couple of locksmiths that you could get a blank cut..

also - doesn't have to be a specific key - once again - decent lock smith wil l have the right shape to match.. should be about $5

i my knowledge there is no immoboliser chip in the key..

best way to find out.. lock yourself in the car.. and start it up...

if it starts then you know for sure. your key isnt chipped..

it just central locks...

hence most insurance companies.. have 2 point immoboliser on your policy..

You cant get the Stag in gear unless the key is in. Is that an Immobiliser?

Presumeably if you hot wire it you still cant get it in gear?

i think thats just a safety thing.. so u dont start the car when its in drive and go forwards...

i mean.. usually .. if u have central locking.. it will immobolise the engine at teh same time... so if u jump in.. lock the doors.. and then start her up normally... it shouldnt start... since the immobliser is armed....

Yeah its a wire that runs from the selector somewhere to the bottom of the ignition, you'll also find you cant take the keys out of the ignition without having it in park.

I found that out the hard way, because mine is a manual converted it still had this wire, and hey presto a day came around that I couldnt get the bloody key out :( but thanks to the help of all the guys here telling me of this wire I now have it pulled open, permanently ;)

I jumped (well just sort of sidled) in, locked the doors, it started! Ergo, no immobiliser.

The blank fitted the Stagea, the S13, 180sx and RMR30. Got spares for all.

Strange that the first key cutter said it couldn't be don. Then on the next level of Australia Fair, no probs.Patrol blanks.

  • 3 months later...
what do these blanks look like can someone post up a picture

can you buy genuine blanks from nissan? or are there other aus delivered models that you could order blanks for that dont have a remote fob on them

standard nissan patrol blank is the go i had the local kwicky mart cut 3 for me it cost me 14 bucks . ive even concidered selling my remote one because you can re program them. its no good to me now as ive set my alarm up with their keyfobs to run the central locking and wind the windows up and im sure someone would want it. i know black widow can set the alarm and or imobiliser up to use the original remote key from nissan i just didnt go that way because i only had one original .

That's the problem, they all go on about the fact that they have a chip in them.. but.. they don't..

Some places have a electronic sensor that they put the key in and it'll light up if it's chipped.. most places just won't cut it..

i sent the missus to get em cut and she told them there is no chip but they just looked at her as if she was stupid and said they cant be done.i went there next day and sorted them out and told them that they were the stupid ones as the quicky mart cut mine and they work fine and they still argued with me (farkin dickheads) their loss lol

Don't you realise that most key cutters have a Chip on their shoulders.
