Auto Gearshift Selector change...

If I change my Skyline's auto gearshift selector with an aftermarket one which has only the park release button, can that be done? What about the overdrive on/off button then?

Anyone knows?

Only thing the RTA cares about when using an aftermanrte shifter is a positive lock for Park and a neutral safety switch. The neutral switch is on the trans, so no dramas there.

For the powershift/OD button, just go to Dick Smiths or wherever and buy a switch..plenty to choose from. You need a switch with 2 terminals. I have the switch on my car on the dash right near my left hand. So much easier to use there(my old powershift button died, and I didn't want to replace it with another old one)

BTW, I know about the park safety lock but what's neutral safety switch for...? Is it to prevent the car starting when the auto gearbox is in any position other than P and N ?
