trying to fit my new 24mm adjustable whiteline swaybar to my 32 gts-t which has an rb30 twin cam which means the motor has been lowered, as you can see from my pictures it simply won't fit. the sump is fouling it before the 'D' bushes have even been tightened (what a pain in the arse getting the new bushes into these)

Basically am i doing anything wrong or will it just not fit with the motor i have?

wont fit. the bar is designed to suit the car with the standard engine. Different or modified sumpif thats what is in way?? or maybe easier option can the bar be spaced down a bit?? Worse case, get custom bar made. Hope one of these options help.

mmm, this isn't what i wanted to hear!

Are the mounting brackets held on with studs from the chassis or with bolts to the chassis?

If its bolts, then piece of piss, just make up some spacer plates and get some longer bolts if needed. However, if its studs then it might be slightly harder to do unfortunately.

Going by whats in your sig...im guessing your a fellow boily or have exp in fabrication. A small challenge like this shouldnt be beyond your abilities.

You have to space it down due to the rb20 sump on yer rb30 sitting lower, as said above.

Whiteline do make custom swaybars (im sure i read SK state somewhere) which shouldnt be too costly...depends if the spacers affect the way the swaybar works or not. Need a suspension guru to answer......sk?

ye sk, can you help? I know he's done an r32 with an rb30 and i'm sure he's put his whiteline stuff in there!

I don’t have a problem with my R32GTST with RB31DET, sump clears OK. Did you lower the engine in yours to clear the plenum?

Two suggestions;

1. You have the car jacked up with the wheels dangling, try fitting the bar with the wheels at normal height ie; with axle stands under the front lower control arms.

2. I can supply spacers if you wish, they fit between the D bracket/bush and the chassis rail. All you will need to do is measure it and tell me how much spacing it needs.

If all else fails, I can have a another bar made with a deeper offset and trade the other bar in, as long as it isn’t scratched up too bad of course. All the fittings are the same of course, so it’s only the bar itself that needs swapping..

Let me know what you want to do via PM.

:D cheers :)

cheers for that SK! I'll have a go at fitting it with the weight off the car then tighten it up with the weight on it but i'm still not sure if it will fit!

3 - things that i think is stopping me putting it on!

1.) the sway bar isn't shaped the exact same one as the original one!

2.) the sump is the rb30 one

3.) the engine has been lowered the 15 odd mm!

will keep you posted!

1. The Whiteline stabiliser bar is obviously a larger diameter than the standard bar. This means the bends can not be as tight a radius. Plus they generally try and keep the ground clearance as per standard, so this means the bar is higher/closer to the sump by the extra thickness.

2. Yep, so is mine, so the bar should fit

3. Ah, my RB31DET hasn't been lowered

I am sure we can find a solution for you, the front stabiliser bar is a very worthwhile upgrade.

:laugh: cheers :D

appreciate your help SK, going to have a go at fiddling with it tomorrow. (spacing it out with washers/longer bolts etc.)

Do you find that the 'D' shackles are awfully tight when trying to put the new yellow bush's in?

I think the fact that the motor has been lowered is going to be the thing we have to get round!

Ash!

by the way i've kept the sway bar in brand new condition if we do need to do a swap of some sort!

The D bushes have to be a tight fit in the D brackets, they fall out if they are a loose fit.

Yep, try spacing it and see how much it needs to clear the sump.

:) Cheers :D

the sticker on the swaybar has the code SBS24??????????????

Only just noticed this, is that the correct code or do i perhaps have the wrong front swaybar for a 32 gts-t???????????????????

on the whiteline site it doesn't come up and the one in the group buy is something like BNF24/8z or something similair?

SBS = Stabiliser Bar Special

24 = 24 mm

Because the Group Buy specifiies extra adjustment holes it's not a "standard" BNF28Z. Hence the use of SBS24.

:( cheers :D
