Hey Guys,

I'm getting in on a group buy for GTR CF bonnets. We currently have 5 interested and are looking for another 5 people that are interested.

Styles: At present I believe we can get designs similar to this:

game-monsta2.jpg

Or I believe plain. They are all hinged and dont have pins. From what I have been told it is not Aluminium with 1 layer of CF but completely CF.

I will have more info soon.

Price: From what I have been told $600 - $700. Not to sure, once again just looking at interest and I will ask for exact price and designs available in the next couple of days

Anyways let me know via PM if you are interested

 fo shizzle

cars pre-1995 (all R32's, and some R33's) can have CF bonnets legally as they did not have to pass front end collision tests.

(CF can be quite dangerous when its smashed)

however, the other part that makes it il/legal is rear facing vents.

legally you can not have any opening in the bonnet that would allow fluids/etc to hit the windscreen in the event of a blown hose, or something to that extent.

you can have bonnets such as the one in that S15, but you need to have an aluminium plate, or something similar made up to close off the rear facing vent.

PS: is this R32 gtrs only? im after one for my S1 R33..

PPS: although you said its not CF on aluminium, for that price id imagine its fibreglass underlayer, with a carbon fibre overlay.

100% CF bonnets can be up around $2000.

Interesting. Kind of logical with the rear facing vents.

I queried the bonnets as I assumed it was a carbon fibre overlay over aluminium as well but he does believe it is 100% CF. I will definitely have a definitive answer on this soon. I didn't really ask how he got them so cheap.

Just for 32s? I can check to see if we can get them for 33s. As he has a 32GTR he was only looking for that specific shape and as I have a few mates with 32s thats as far as we got but i will let you know soon.

Peace.

Man...even $700 is cheap. I would expect a full CF hood to be closer to 2K than 1K. Most of the ones i have looked at are fiberglass with a layer of CF to make it look bling. I would be interested depending on design. As for the rearward facing vent I have been told by a certain tuner that he could get me permit, but before i would drop that kind of coin I would want to get it in writing. Any idea of weight? Everyone has different ideas as to what is asthetically groovy so you are going to have your work cut out for you Tofu. Keep us informed

Any idea of weight?

Mr Keets....from trusted sources here on SAU there are no cf bonnets available in australia that weigh less than the original aluminium GTR bonnet. This is due to the fact that they are fibreglass with a cf overlay. The only cf bonnets that weigh less are genuine items from trusted manuf. available in japan and you can expect to pay around 5-8k for one!

Hey ppl

Ant: Agreed. I would think that most of the hoods around 1K to 1.5K would be CF over FG, thats why I asked about the weight. But who am I to doubt the man. As for aussie producers check out http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...m%20carbon&st=0. Nobody mentioned weight but the price was $2K+ for a vacum bagged OEM style hood

As for the price of a CF hoods in Jp these guys (http://www.electra-cps.com) sell a prepreg carbon hood (3.2Kg) for about $3,500.au + delivery + tax + insurance + grief ; probably works out close enough to 5K by the time you get it home. Way too rich for my blood. Check out the R32 GTR rear wing though :D

But in the end its all academic, I'm not interested in spending 2K + to save a little weight (comparitively) on a 1500Kg street car. I'm in interested in bringing down the engine bay temp and feeding my pods. Also a little bling never hurt. :)

Go Tofu!

Mr K....I couldn't agree with you more about the bling look of cf. I would love a jgtc style one for my 33 to match the cf I have on the back but as yet none I have seen have impressed. The other thing that has stopped me has been this stupid rule about rear facing vents :w00t:

Anyway thats a diff issue......good stuff tofu and want to see pics of it on the car when done :D

Ant,

that vent deal is a worry. What's the fit on your boot lid (?) like. Fit and finish always seems to be the issues I read about "wet" CF/FG panels. If i could get one like this mmm. I'm sure the guy that owns this one is also an SAU member in the U.K. Carmate over east do one similar

Indeed. The GTR, GTST, GTS4 and GTS can fit the same bonnet.

I will hopefully have some answers tomorrow or satuday so I can have something definite about the buy.

Are there anymore questions before I give them a call?

Cheers

Hey Tofu

Apart from the required GB stuff, i'd like to know....

Are these Wet CF over a FG inner, prepreg CF, vacume bagged or ???

Styles, I'm really after the type in my last post, but what can you get?

Hood pins, can they be retro fitted.

Are they clear coated (UV stable)?

I would like to see a close up photo of the edge of the hood, vents etc.

Thanks for putting in the effort :(

Mr K.....I don't have a cf bootlid....I have a cf diffuser and cf wing blade on my 33

Heres a pic:

It is made by a top japanese tuning company so the fit and finish are top class.

As for hood pins...they can be fitted to any bonnet...all it takes is a drill :(
