Purpose Of The Rectangle Cutouts In An R33 Front Bar?

Hey everyone, on this bar:

what is the purpose of the rectangle cutouts above the numberplate? Is it for lights or something, or just rice?

Called N1 vents/slots (well that's what most people refer to them as).

They are for airflow I believe.

I would think that they are the Japanese solution to retaining a legal and reasonably strong front bar while allowing that much more airflow to the top of the standard GTR FMIC.

I am sure aesthetic design comes into the picture as well

I had one of these bars on my current series 2 when i bought it...

They hacked at the re-enforcment with an angle grinder to make it fit/work. So when i ripped the bumper off i had to replace the support also due to dodgy side cuts on installation...
