D000rifto
I am currently running 18psi through my RB20 with a Gt2530 day in and day out, and it runs fine, beautiful actually. I was wondering what the theoretical boost limits would be for a standard internal RB20, and this model of turbo. Saw some of the guys have been running 21psi, 22psi with similar setups. Running a Wolf3d v4 and eboost. The engine's history is fairly uncertain, but it has been running a consistent 18psi for at least the last 2 years, and the car has been drifted and thrashed fairly hard, although it runs fine currently. On a cold morning it is a bit spluttery and misfirey, but once she is going, runs fine. Obviously 18psi is not what you would call 'safe' for a reasonably old engine, but would like some advice. R31Nismoid
no such thing as "safe boost" turbos all flow different amounts of air, different motors ingest different amounts As long as you have a solid tune, and you check the health of the motor before screwing large amounts into it. It should be fine Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/121089-highest-safe-boost-on-standard-rb20/#findComment-2230646 Share on other sites
D000rifto
By check the health of the motor you don't mean pull the head off and check the head gasket e.t.c. do you? Because thats way too time consuming for my liking. Obviously all turbos flow different amount of boost... but the fact that the 2530 is a very popular option for the RB20, I assume there are plenty of memebers running 2530 on stock internals, I was looking for some members, from their experience, to tell me what kinda boost they have run on similar setups. Sydneykid
Try a search, "Sydneykid" and "+boost+irrelevant" that should give you the answer cheers Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/121089-highest-safe-boost-on-standard-rb20/#findComment-2231967 Share on other sites
R31 POWER
I've been running 17psi thru my 20 with a Hks GT2535 for about a year also,it loves it. D000rifto
Yeah im running 18 consistently now, was looking to go for something like 21psi when the weather cooled down, which is starting to happen now. Just wondering whether anyone else consistently runs 20+ through the turbo on stockers... Might just have to run 21psi on dyno days only?! Mulkers
on a healthy silvertop rb20det, i wouldn't go above 11/12psi, but 10.5 is stock, so is it really worth it? an exhaust for quicker spool time etc would be much better value for money Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/121089-highest-safe-boost-on-standard-rb20/#findComment-2233768 Share on other sites

D000rifto
have you not read one post in this thread? Is it just that you have to be involved in every post on the forum because you are a moderator, or do you just like revving people up?? I asked a simple question, so far one of the posts was from someone running substantial boost through the turbo and engine, which is what I want to know. You obviosuly dont have the setup I am talking about... Which posts is it that I am supposed not to have read R31Nismoid?? Is there 10 posts hiding there saying that someone ran 21psi and blew their engine up, and I just didnt notice them ?? Because thats what I am trying to find out... rb26s13
he is involved in every post because this is a section that he moderates.. and also he is fairly knoledgble i'd say your biggest risks are tuning.. and yes do the search that sydney kid recommend.. i notice your from townsville i'd be careful with who you get to tune it.. and i cant reccomend anyone from cairns that could tune it safely either as wolf is not highly used up here and the few people that do use it.. i wouldnt trust them tuning my pushbike Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/121089-highest-safe-boost-on-standard-rb20/#findComment-2237988 Share on other sites

Because thats what I am trying to find out... as said (already). It is NOT a question of boost. Boost level really is irrelevant in this thread with the mods supplied. Read my first post, if you dont understand it thats fine, ill be more than happy to explain more. If the tune is good, the motor is healthy, it will be ok Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/121089-highest-safe-boost-on-standard-rb20/#findComment-2238061 Share on other sites

Boost level really is irrelevant in this thread with the mods supplied.Read my first post, if you dont understand it thats fine, ill be more than happy to explain more. If the tune is good, the motor is healthy, it will be ok The Wolf3D was tuned originally by Ricol in sydney with an aggressive tune for about two years, and now it has been tuned by TMS in Townsville. AFR is in the mid-12s to keep it relatively safe. Engine appears to be healthy but obviously havnt done a compression test so not sure. How much does a compression test cost roughly?! I guess its probably worth it... Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/121089-highest-safe-boost-on-standard-rb20/#findComment-2238867 Share on other sites
MKDR33
standard boost for the 2530 is 1 bar i think.. ive got one in my R33 and on the lowest boost setting it runs at 1 bar.. i was told that they can run up to 25psi+, depending on ur engine and setup.. D000rifto
i notice your from townsville i'd be careful with who you get to tune it.. and i cant reccomend anyone from cairns that could tune it safely either as wolf is not highly used up here and the few people that do use it.. i wouldnt trust them tuning my pushbike hahahaha yeah ive noticed that they dont seem that good up here. Wont be here all that long, prolly move back to Sydney or Brisbane in a year or so... I am probably more worried about the amount of boost the engine can handle stock, I too have been told that 2530's are able to handle in the vicinity of 25psi, so obivously that isnt the weakest link. The turbo seems fine on face value, it has a nice spool down when I turn the engine off and everything, although thats not exactly a perfect diagnostic tool... Obviously there have to be a few people that have blown their RB20's ip, what kinda boost did it?? rb26s13
hmm people arent understanding boost is irrelevent.. its all in the tune and if mid 12's are a safe tune? f**k i'd have to see wat happens when they lean on it when running big power Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/121089-highest-safe-boost-on-standard-rb20/#findComment-2239872 Share on other sites
