I have been reading on here, and heard a few other stories about Skylines getting stolen recently. It seems that the thieves have worked out how to get into them.

One of the reasons I bought a skyline was because they did not seem to get stolen as often as Commodores, but it seems they are the new favourite for thieves after Commodores and WRX's.

I have been trying to think of a way of disabling my car so it can't be started at all, but I can't seem to think of anything other than pulling out a few relays.

Does anyone have any ideas about pulling something off the motor to disable the car? It seems that alarms and immobilisers don't cut it anymore. I understand if people don't want to post up their little tricks (unfortunately, you don't know who is watching...) but I would like to hear from anyone that has any good tricks.

No shit thieves have figured out how to break into them there's a howto on this very site...

I had some little dear sit in my car and steal the radio, while the (external) alarm went crazy.

So now I have a Jaycar Screacher alarm (110dB @ 2kHz) mounted INSIDE the car. Just to remind any similar sweet things that they really were not welcome in my car.

No shit thieves have figured out how to break into them there's a howto on this very site...

That is a pretty stupid idea, tell everyone how to break into a Skyline and hope people only use the information for legitimate purposes..... :D

An internal screamer is a very good idea. I might look into one. I had one in previous car, you don't want to be inside when it goes off.

install a killswitch. have two or three switches to bypass it. position them in the most unobvious place though. i would like to write up a DIY on how to install one but then it will give thieving c*nts a chance to see how it is installed and then easily bypass that. mines wired up a special way.

cut signal to crank angle sensor

cut signal to eccs

pick any number of important sensor in your corresponding engine and put a kill switch where you deem necessary to break the circuit. the car wont start or run.

Just a word of caution.

Honest people are not the only ones that use this forum, THEIVES do to.

While I agree with the idea of securing your car from some scumbag, just remember the more information you disclose, even if it only says you use a kill switch over an alarm or electronic immobiliser etc can make your car easier to steal.

Be very mindful of the type of information you give out and the person you are giving that information out to. PM's can be just as dangerous. Do you actually know the person on the other end? Are they after help, or just after your car?

I have been involved with the car audio and security industry for over 10 years now and have seen to many times people openly discussing the types, locations and specifics of how to make their particular car " unstealable", more disturbing than forum discussion, is people at car shows/ displays/ race meets that ask what sort of security is on the vehicle and then are given that information.

So please BE CAREFUL.

As for my 2c on the situation.

For most skylines they would be required to have an Aust standards immobiliser fitted for insurance purposes. The immobiliser while effective can be installed in one of two ways.

a - it's in and it works, but you can locate the module etc

b - it's in, its works and you cannot locate the wiring/ module or other traces of it.

The better an instalation of any security product the more effective that product would be. Even a basic immobiliser if installed well can frustrate a thief long enough to not want to steal the car.

I would personally recommend an Alarm with built in immobiliser hooked to GSM paging with car shut down/ lock down and location functions. Not cheap, but a hell of a lot better than coming park to an empty car park space.

i didnt buy it to do the shopping, or to go out to a party or a club.

it dosnt leave the sight, or does not get left anywhere unattended.

but still i have security in place.

p.s. things like this can also be noted down by your switch on the end of your keys.

what is this article on how to break into skylines? or is it one of those 'if you locked your keys in your car' type articles? sounds like an interesting read. i'm not a car thief, these are just things i like to know about, so where can i see it/get a copy?

Modern immobilisers are generally good enough to stop randoms hotwirng your car. Of course, installers and mechanics tend to know ways around them after they poke around the car.

And professionals will just tow it away if its too hard to hotwire, which all the hidden kill switches in the world won't prevent.

Can someone please PM me the theory behind a kill switch, don't need to know where you have it etc, just need to know what it does.

I don't quite get how you can have a switch that disables everything when the components are still there.

    • Good morning all, Bit of a random question but figured I’d finally throw it out after wondering for a long while. Before I start, I'm hoping to do this purely out of personal preference. I think it would look better at night, and don't mind at all spending a few hours and dollars to get it done. I've copied this from a non-Skyline specific forum, so I apologize for the explanation of our headlight switch setup that we all know. Here we go: Zero lights (switch off) Parking lights (switch position 1) being a rectangular marker on the outside of the housing, my low beam being the projector in the centre (position 2), and a high beam triggered by my turn signal stalk. Most North American cars I’ve owned of this era have power to the amber corner (turning indicator) light as part of the first switch (parking lights). I’d love to have these amber corners receive power when the headlights and parking lights are on (headlight switch), yet still blink when using the turn signal which is of course a separate switch. Hopefully I’ve explained my question correctly. Is anyone aware of a way in which I might be able to achieve this? Thanks in advance
    • My heads are cathedral port! It's likely possible, but I don't want to add any extra moving parts (I know they don't move) between the heads, manifolds, etc. It will also affect how injectors/fuel rails etc sit and I don't really know if it would change how the FAST manifold goes/sits/fits. I have the LS6 steam pipes already as I have a very late LS1 block so it should be fine. I couldn't find anyone who had ever actually used one for this purpose, it seems 100% of people grind the water pump. The thermal spacers are 12mm and are half way to the cost of the newer water pump anyhow... so if it comes to that I suppose I'd rather buy a new pump. The bearing in the pump I do have is a little.. clunky, but it hasn't done that much time and I never noticed it when the car was together in the past few years, so..
    • The bushing has failed, not all that uncommon for a car of this age.  Any mechanic should be able to push in a new bushing for you, or you can probably buy the entire lower control arm, complete with bushes.
    • Could you not use "thermal" spacers to give the clearance, like the ones I used between the blower and head? That raised the manifold height by around 10-15mm Albeit the ones I used were for cathedral ports, but I assume they have similar for rectangular ports????
    • Thanks Paul I reached out to Autotainment but they no longer work on JDM cars as the guy who used to do the work moved on and is no longer doing that kind of work. I am talking with Level Up Audio though.
