hi

i have a BNR32 with rb26 in it

the gearing it self, we cannot tell if it's aftermarket or not.

from what i hear from other ppl, the gearing feels shorter, but i do not know how to tell.

all i know is when i up-shift 1-5 very smooth..but down shift 5th to 4th grinds even if i shift really slowly then from 4-3-2-1 is very smooth

from what i was told gearing 1-4 has been changed but 5th was lefted stock,

now my question is, if 1-4 is aftermarket and 5th was stock, will it grind like that ? or is my tranny just worn.

thanks

Hi,

It's likely that your 4th gear synchro is worn out.

A new one from Nissan Australia is about $130 RRP.

I'd guess it will cost about $600 to put that in (see R32 gearbox recondition thread)

if you can't recondition the box yourself.

Don't grind the gears or you will damage the 3rd-4th sleeve;

and when you go to replace _that_ you will be in a world of hurt

(you have to replace a whole stack of other parts with a RRP of

about $2k).

Regards,

Saliya

usually these problems will eventually require gearbox rebuild or replacement. but alot of people have had success using Redline Lightweight Shockproof gearbox oil in their skyline boxes which seems to eliminate minor crunching in alot of cases.

in any case, i'd be using redline oil regardless of whether it crunched or not, it's great stuff!
