I think his name is matt with the username boosted..

It was while back now, so i cant remember.

But hes very helpful person!!

Thanks everyone for your advise, Chris from Shannons was cool as and came back with around $900 and $500 excess for $15000 cover. Just cars $1500 + $1600 if a claim is made and they wouldn't budge at all. I also received a quote from Torque for $699 with $500 excess for $16400 agreed cover (pending photos of the vehicle) before speaking to Chris. I just need to mull up my options now, but will more than likely go with Shannons for the name and reputation as I can't seem to find much info on Torque's reputation.

It's all relative dude! When you reach 21 you will wish you are 18 again and be willing to pay a big premium for it :P Thanks for the link!

I wonder if insurance companies look after you if you've been a long-term customer...

I pay around $900 for a '99 stagea, rating 1, through just car. I'm 24.

I know skylines cost more to insure due to the risk of theft but $1500 for a 30 y.o. sounds a bit too much.

Hopefully you can find something cheaper and reliable.

Try suncorp, i've heard they're not bad on price. :P

I said I was over 30! I am 42 LOL. So I thought it was a bit rich charging me $1500 + $1600 excess for a claim when I have not ever made a claim and have 1 speeding offence in 25 years driving. Apparently I was right at the end of the day! Suncorp quoted me $1300 but included 14 days car hire with every claim. Nice but not nice enough.

What I have found is once you are with an insurance company, they think they have you and drop the total coverage every year but up the price. It seems crazy to me if they want to keep your business! I don't think Shannons use that equation though. I think they use an agreed price and keep the premiums relatively the same year to year. Most mainstream Insurance companies use my first sentence as a sentence for being with them untill you decide to piss them off.

i'm 23 and pay $1050 through just cars for my 33, valued at $14,000. it would've been $970, but i put the missus on there and she's only a rating 2. but i don't live in the city. i live in a small town so that would knock it down a bit.

Thats weird dude...Just cars is normally a lot cheaper once over 30...i was 30 when i insured the 34 2 yrs ago and got a rating 1 and am paying bout 900+....unless u've got a bad driving history???

I have had 1 fine in 25 years LOL it was 2 months ago way after I got my Just cars quote a year ago for $1500. Just shows there is huge variance between companies based on whatever seems to be the thought of the day huh? I have never made a claim against an insurance company in that time either!

you got a quote from just cars a year ago??

get a quote today and see the price.

Im sure it will be under 1k for you. Excess will be a little higher than shannons tho.

I got a quote a year ago and ran with it $1500 now renewal is same with $1600 excess on top of that if I make a claim but $800 less coverage on total value of car than last year and they wouldn't budge a cent when ringing them, so yea that's the reason I wanted to drop them like a hot potato :P

I know a 19 YO paying $8400/year with Just cars for a GTR Not sure on Excess but would be a killer. Bad record.

thats just stupid. if it was going to cost me that much to insure a car i wouldn't bother buying it. get a shitter and drive it for a few years then get it and save yourself a lot of money in the meantime.

I agree! If I really wanted the car that bad it would honestly make me think $8400 for a $35000 car Hmmmmmm Should I even bother insuring it at all or at least consider just 3rd party insurance. I have discussed it with him and he doesn't seem to mind paying it for now (more money than sense I reakon) He is a semi high flyer for his age. He had a huge accident about a year ago that caused his dilema involving many cars not just his own.

Or.. buy the GTR, third party cover (fire and theft) put 8 K in the bank, put another 8 K next year... 16 grand in two years, if he has an accident... 16 grand to patch it up.

the guy is a moron to pay that much.

Maybe you are paying higher due to your location.

There are many other factors that could relate to it.

Is your car garaged. Is there a high theft scene around your area.

Have they got your details correct??

Ring them up and ask why it costs a little more compared to others.

:) I am happy now :sorcerer: I can pay by the month with Shannons with no penalty $77/month to be with someone I want to be with. Always garaged, 3 point black wired immoboliser/alarm. Area is considered moderate for theft not high.

    • @Vee37 How much do you really care about finding these pads again? If your pads are quiet, work well and produce minimal dust, really isn't that enough? If you are set on finding the exact pads again, I suppose I'd do something like this -  Visit your local Jax, find out what brand of pads they carry. If the Jax workshop you previously went to had the pads on the shelf, then you can almost guarantee it will be of said brand.   I'm guessing you don't have the receipt for the previous work and pads. Can you visit a Jax workshop and see if they can look up your previous job to see what pads were fitted?  Still no luck? Put your stalker hat on, find the staff that used to work at the Jax store and ask them. Talk to local workshops, try to find out where the mechanics went to. Talk to Jax workshops, maybe they relocated to another workshop. When it comes to mechanics, its a small world. You'd be surprised how easy it is to track someone down. If these ideas don't work, shit will start getting crazy very quickly.... You could find out every brand and model of pad that fits that car... and try them individually ticking each off the list if it wasn't the one you were looking for.... If you go down this path your going to want to learn how to swap pads yourself, it is very easy, takes minimal tools and space. If you have room to park the car you have room to swap the pads. Plus you have the advantage of making sure all the brake hardware goes back in so they won't squeal!
    • You miss spelled bearings...
    • Just putting it out there, that's a decent list. You would be better off *not* doing *any* of that and buying someone else's modded car. Like mine. Or anybody else's. Yes it's lotto dependent and all this and that but that 70K (remember, double your guesses) could go elsewhere. Keep it stock, save your money, go lowball @Dose Pipe Sutututu :p
    • Does not mean what you think it means. The continual rising coefficient is the coefficient of friction that continues to rise with increasing temperature. Not "rising during a single stop", except inasmuch as the brakes should get hotter during a single stop. The RR would not be the best choice for a streeter. Yeah....no it's not. JAX would rummage around in the "shit pads we use for all shitboxen that come in here" and install those.
    • @Kinkstaah I've got my list.. but most of them is to do if I ever win the lotto
