JUST when you think you've found a loop-hole, you go and discover they've already got that angle covered off... sneaky bastards!

" The use, misuse, or existence of nuclear weapons or the

materials or ionising radiation or contamination from such

:D

On a serious note, i too have recently got a LSV quote and it's about half price of Shannons, was VERY VERY surprised. Agreed value not quite as much, but if it seems they hang onto that value longer then i'll probably do better than with Shannons dropping it quite quickly from experience with prev cars.

I rang just then to query the 'modifications' exclusion and it sounds to me more like they would do the old "if it didn't contribute to the accident/incident, we don't care". Yes, the PDS specifically states...

Undisclosed and illegal modifications

your vehicle if it has any:

• modification which you have not told us about; and we would not

have agreed to cover your vehicle if the modification had been

disclosed to us;

• modification which is not permitted by law in the State or Territory in

which your vehicle is registered;

• modification which would prevent your vehicle from being

legally registered in the State of Territory in which you reside, unless

your vehicle is unregistered, you have provided full details of the

modification to us, and we have agreed to cover your vehicle.

But i believe that is similar to Just Cars, although they just say, unlimited legal mods, JC is obviously covering claims where say someone has an accident but has an atmo BOV. It sounds like there is a common sense type test applied in the assessing of the claim.

I'm going to double check again with the guy who has been quoting me for the car, but that's what i've got so far from the guys on the phone

It's a tough one...

You are signing a contract, the contract doesn't have to be law abiding. If you tell them about ALL of your illegal mods and they decide to cover you still then they have to pay out.

If you don't tell them about the mods they can just turn around and go "we wouldn't have covered you if you told us about that mod" and void your claim.

Thats a very interesting point. I will call and ask them about this.

Cheers

pretty much what i said on the phone, that i told them absolutely EVERYTHING done to the car, i know there's some illegal mods, you know there's some illegal mods, but you've still agreed to insure me.

That's when he said in his experience it's not an issue if it's not related to the incident etc, which is the basically the unwritten rule it seems insurance companies go by.

Ha called LSV this morning, enquired about my quote a few weeks earlier... found out that there was no record on there system of the engine mods that i listed to them in the first instance that they agreed to cover, so be very careful with this, they may agree to cover modifications over the phone, but then neglect to put them in the insurance policy?... They also reitterated that illegal modifications, whether they agrreeded to cover or not, will void any claims. as stated earlier, you buy whats in the PDS...

Yep make sure to read it and clarify anything over the phone, I personally have all my mods listed on my renewal, they stated unless the non approved mods are a cause or factor in an accident they won't void the claim.

just called Shannons, they're a lot more upfront about it over the phone, like has been said already, don't really care if it wasn't a contributing factor, but...

say the accident is frontal, and for example your HKS turbos are buggered, they would only be replaced with standard items and you would come to an agreement with Shannons about cash difference etc for what the HKS are worth over standard items.

LSV on the other hand seem to be very by the book over the phone, they do tentatively mention the 'not a contributing factor' line but prefer to fallback on, if you have illegal mods then yes, your claim can be denied. Perhaps they're a lot tighter with these things hence the premium difference? I didn't ask about (or was told) cash settlement difference with parts listed and covered, relative to having stock parts put back on.

Surely someone has had a bingle with aftermarket parts and has a story to tell? be interesting to see if people like Shannons etc have replaced different turbo's etc.

rang Just Cars, they didn't have 2002 Skylines listed :domokun: or not for GTR, i dunno, not on the system, and then i told them all mods and were more confused about what to do, so they're going to get back to me.

Ok i rang lsv and just car today, im 27 and been a good boy with my licence....

stock 99 gtr

LSV were 910 with 2-3 times driving per week

Just car were 1396

Modded GTR computer, exhaust and intake

LSV were 1400

Just car were 1411

For those that own a GTR (Suspect this is the reason for the "Special Vehicle Excess" which is 1000) and having an insurance with Justcar or planning to, make sure you check ALL the excesses.

I was with Justcar for 3years without knowing about the hidden excesses and got a shock when I saw them this time when I was sent the renewal notice. Immediately I called NRMA up for a quote. Got quoted 1250 for full comprehensive with 600 flat excess. The insured value of the car is only 2000 lesser than Justcar.

My original premium with Justcar is 950 but with a much higher excess (I did that to lower my basic premium) of 1500. But little did I know I have to pay other excess along with the 1500 (I know its my responsibility to read but I would have thought they would advise you of these excess).

If the car is stolen, I need to pay

1) Basic excess =1500

2) Special Vehicle excess = 1000

3) Thief excess = 1000

If I were to make a claim for anything, I need to pay

1) Basic excess =1500

2) Special Vehicle excess = 1000

So in the end I changed to insurer to NRMA.

Did you try Shannons or LSV? no such thing as special vehicle excess and your basic excess would most likely be $500, mines by like that for years.

Tried Shannons but they didnt like my carport with a roller door. Said they wouldnt insure it unless its in a fully enclosed garage which is fair enough.
