Well that is expensive then and that is a damn good price for a GTR.... $1200.. Especially a 33 V-Spec.

How do both of the policy's compare? Drivable Km per year wise etc etc...

Unless its just their policy on GTR's.. They don't want to insure them so they over charge?!?!?!?

What do other people get charged for their GTR's?

he's on a rating 1 with no offences in 8 years at the age of 44

this quote is just bullshit.

I know people who are under 25 and haven't even got 60% NCB that are insuring R33 GT-R's with Famous for less than that...

I wouldn't think being a V-Spec or otherwise would make a huge difference to the premium would it?

I rang them and asked on a price for a N/A mr2 1993 model and they wanted $3,700 !!!

last time im going to ring them!

Give torque a try, and post back here when they reply...

I'm curious to see how they compare.

Suncorp dont want to insure in VIC so they give astronomical quotes... They wanted $15,000 for my gts25t....

dad range up Shannons (who deal whith unique/collector cars) and for maximum of 8,000 km per year they will insure him on $1,200 a year

i made a mistake suncorp are curently charging him $1,500 a year at the moment. however there is no km restriction.

I would have thought 1.5K / year is cheap for a 33 GTR... What's the agreed value - 45 - 50k? NRMA quoted me 13k for a 33 GTS-T with a 25k agreed value, and then said even if I had the money, they still might not insure me... 22 male, 1 <15kph speeding fine a few years back, one minor fender bender about 18 months ago. I've had all my other cars insured through them with 3rd party property since I had my L's... That's expensive insurance.

I have called Famous for a quote. Robin was very helpful indeed. Got a price of $1800 for insuring 2002 200SX for $38k. Over 30 y.o, 1 speeding fine <15kms, low risk postcode, no at-fault accidents. I thought that was a good price until I rang up Budget Direct Insurance Agency. They quoted me just over $1300! A good saving. But my question is, has anyone dealt with this company b4?

Did u read my post?

When I rang they said: "Um.... I think $1800 should do it?!?!"

I told them Just Cars quoted me $1600, so they said uuummmmmm, I guess $1500 to $1550 is OK......"

Then I told them about the SAU 10% discount, and they said "I think $1480 is probably he best we can do.... how does that sound?!?!?!?"

At this point, I thought to myself..... you could have quoted that from the beggining... even still I wasn't sure if they were pulling that # out of their arse....... I was not happy being spoken to like that.... it's not a few cents or a few dollars we are talking about here, that was a $380 difference that they weren't sure about.... how can you trust someone when they dont trust themselves?????

To sum it up, if they gave me a firm price, and said that is the best we can do, I would have no problem with that. But the fact that they gave me a different price every 15 seconds, gave me the impression that thaey were not very professional. Others may have had good experiences with them, but I am just making others aware of mine.

As I have stated before...I am insured with Torque...they are extremely helpful..open to a bit of negotiation....

I am doing my engine rebuild at the moment and when I rang them to find out about insurance while doing this they were very helpful...gave me restoration insurance for $140 a year and refunded the balance promptly...

They are underwritten by Lumley...havent had to make a claim yet though.../

Cheers

In re to making claims.....

I always thought it was more secure to be with the bigger insurance companies when it came time to make a claim, but here's a short story that will change your mind...

My sister (who was 7 months pregmant at the time with her second kid) was driving with her husband and 5 year old child, was in a head on collision with some guy who just came over to the wrong side of the road. Luckily she was OK. Two cops had seen the whole thing, and rushed over to check if all were OK, and to get all the details down. The guy had given False details which checked out OK, then p1ssed off!

When my sister made the claim, they said she would have to pay the excess b/c they couldn't find the guy.... (This is with RACV)

She told them 2 cops SAW the whole thing, and it is detailed in their report, so there is proof she is NOT at fault... but they didnt care and refused to fix her car unless she paid the excess and lost her rating......

Luckily though the dumbarse that hit her, used her mobile to call home, and she noticed it on her bill. She gave the number to the cops, they found him, and he had to fork it out in the end....

So dont think u r any safer with a big insurance company...

Zahos, I had a similar incident. I was parked in Erskineville in Sydney. A car came out of a side street without looking, T-boned a car, that car spun over the median strip and sideswiped three parked cars, which one of them was mine. Two cops were there who saw everything, made the report and blamed it on the initial driver who came out of the sidestreet, but the persons ID came out false and disappeared without being seen again. I then tried to make a claim from the person who hit me (she was not at fault initially and was insured with NRMA). They said yes, everything was fine so I took the car to the repairers and was just about to commence the work when NRMA told me that they declined my claim on the basis that she was not the one at fault, even though she hit me. Anyway, my car never got fixed in the end, but gotten over that now. At least no one was hurt...

Is allegation about Famous being illegal true? I just got the best premiun I could get from them, and was planning to fax in the application tomorrow. Their website seems pretty legit, established 1982, underwritten by Heritage,etc...and scouring though MRt/silvia/wrx forums their seems to be quite alot of people with them.....god hope its not true....

Turns out Suncorp turned down the polacy once they heard of the GT-R being a v-spec saying this cars too expecsive to fix. Dads now moving onto a polacy with Shannons for around $1.2 thousand full comprihensive, catch is maximun km's per year is capped at 8,000km + tripple point imobiliser + photo's... So insureing this car with anyone is a hasle. Any other companies you guys can recomend him for some decent quotes?

you've answered your own question. would a company be around for 21 years if they were illegal? or would the 'i heard this from these guys so it could be true' allegations be right?

I dont know if it is true, and I went elsewhere for insurance b/c of a better quote on my premium. The best thing you could do is to call them up and ask them. Dont always believe what someone says b/c they heard it elsewhere...

forget about torque .. i called them and they said that

they only insure classic and vintage cars, a 200sx is not in that "category".

Rang Just Cars first to ask for a quote on an unmodified S15 and they redirected me to AAMI. Same company, I know, but it was interesting to know that the S15 fits into their 'STD' car category. Still doesn't make things any cheaper...$2555 for the s15, over 30, rating 1. Excess is cheaper though - $450.

but you must have precv policy UNDER UR OWN name to be rating 1. Nominated driver does not count.
